Hello, my name is Chris Johnston. I discovered this site through the author's portal and only wish I had known about it sooner. I am an architect by profession and a life long history nut. I have been into US Civil War history since I was young. When my father in law died, it triggered a curiosity and then a passion about WWII history which led to my book about his incredible experiences. From that research exercise, I am addicted to WWII books.When not reading, I am involved in catamaran racing, tending to 2 horse, a cat, and a dod.

My country counts it's birthdate around 965 ad when King Harald Bluetooth made a rune stone documenting the united kingdom Danmark.

I am a school teacher and one of my specialities is history. I am mostly interested in northern European history, the vikings of Scandinavia and the branches that grow from that 'tree'.

My fascination includes faith and spirituality of ancient and past religions, ways of living, fighting, surviving and the power of kings and growing governments.

Hello everyone, my name is Tammam and I am from Syria. I have lived and worked in Switzerland for ten years now and work for Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

I read many genres but have a lot of interest and affinity for history. I particularly like military history, history of philosophy, and history of medicine.

It is my first time in a book club, I have always read alone and hardly done ever done it as an "interactive" thing. I am looking forward to being in the history club and learning from all of you.

Good evening, I'm Roberto E Fiad and I am a history buff since I was in my early teens. My preferences are Roman Empire history and mid 19th to mid 20th Century periods. I am particularly partial to interwar era between the First and Second World Wars.

I an an old retired lawyer named Robert Walker. American history and historical fiction are my main reading interests, particularly books covering WWll and the American colonial period. Many years ago, I picked up somewhere that Erika Waag Canaris, the widow of Wilhelm Canaris, the head of the German Abwehr during WWll was receiving a monthly pension from an unknown source. For many years after the war there had been speculation that Canaris was a spy for the British. I just got a copy of Richard Bassett's "Hitler's Spy Chief, The Wilhelm Canaris Mystery," which will be my next reading assignment to hopefully find out where Admiral Canaris' loyalties lay. Outside or reading, I like to play duplicate bridge and fish in the beautiful Tennessee River.

Thanks for the welcome! Yes, Mystic is a pretty spot! Nathaniel Philbrick just came to town and I heard him speak about his new book, "Valiant Ambition: George Washington, Benedict Arnold, and the fate of the American Revolution." I haven't started reading it, but when I do, I will let you all know what I think! I'm running out the door now to present some information on the Battle of Groton Heights near Fort Griswold. It is interesting to live near the site of the massacre under Benedict Arnold's command.

Lisa, I just finished Valiant Ambition and thought it was very well done. How nice that you were able to hear the author speak in person. I've enjoyed two of his other books: Mayflower and In the Heart of the Sea. He really does his homework!

Hi! I'm Susan. I grew up in Massachusetts, so my love of history developed from an early age because of the rich, multilayered history of my home state. An amazing college professor challenged my understanding of history and set me on a path of discovery that has lasted a lifetime. I will read just about any topic pertaining to history. Being an "over thinker" I have a tendency to to immerse myself for months at a time on a particular subject, usually after discovering a book that sets my analytical brain on fire. My fiancé says that my eyes light up in a special way when I tell him about what I'm reading.... I'm passionate about the way history unfolds, the stories and reasons why things happen. The influences that create history - geography, culture, economics, etc. - excite me in a way that keeps my brain engaged in the best possible way. I look forward to being a part of the group so that I can expand my reading material and my understanding of history! Read on!

Hello, I'm joining the readalong about Washington, A Life, on June 20, God willing. Relatives will be visiting that weekend, right before so I'm hoping I don't forget.
At the moment, I'm reading a book about Thomas Jefferson, written supposedly by his daughter, Patsy. It's a historical fiction book, by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie, called America's First Daughter. Reading this will put me in a frame of mind to more easily absorb the book about Washington, I think.

Hello fellow history readers! I am Barbara from Caldwell, NJ (originally from Floral Park (Nassau), NY). I am a 60-year-old lawyer. Oddly enough, history was my least favorite subject in high school, and the one class that kept me off the honor roll for many marking periods. I started college after high school (in the 1970s), but had a twelve year "break" while I was raising my three sons, and I returned to college in 1990. I was dreading taking a history class, but I had interviewed one of the professors for the campus newspaper because her history documentary had been nominated for an Academy Award. She turned me into a history lover in many ways, but mainly by introducing me to the joys of primary source research. Consequently, I have associate's degrees in journalism and public administration and a dual bachelor's degree in history and political science. And then I earned a law degree when my oldest son was in college, the middle son was in high school, and the youngest was in grade school. History nevertheless remains my passion. I have been drawn most to intellectual, cultural, and US constitutional history, but if I am reading about an era, I also read related books of military and political history. My favorite historical eras are the early United States and then, more globally, the progressive era because of the changes wrought in the world by the advent of mass communications and transportation, but also by progressive thinkers. In reading through many of your intros, I feel like I have found my tribe!

I'm Gauri, and I live in the United States. I am most interested in American history, especially relating to culture and arts. I would like to study post-WWII history more in depth, as well as the civil rights movement and black history. I'm also interested in learning about 60's counterculture and the Beat generation.

My name is Brad. The past few years I have been reading a lot about the history of human relations. Many different disciplines claim to be able to tell us why people do what they do -- Economics, Psychology, Anthropology, Philosophy, etc. etc. -- and I am fascinated by the interplay between these different disciplines, how they evolved, and how in turn they have affected the changes in how people interact with one another.

On a personal level, I was a math major, history minor as an undergrad, and currently work in the legal field.

The current annual book by Alan Ryan looks like it's right up my alley. I see I'd be entering the discussion late, but maybe I can try to catch up.
