Unfortunately I have to admit that the main character, Rachel, really irritated me. She was a overbearing bitch that had to be in control ALL THE TIME! Luckily she redeemed herself in the end and turned into a more likeable character.

For such an "old" movie (2002) it stood up good in 2015.

I watched this back in 2002 and it scared the living daylights out of me!

Lauren Smith I watched this in the cinema when it came out, and many times since. It's one of my favourite horror movies and it still scares me. There's nothing I don't like about it, really, although there's a bit in the middle that bugs me. The video is playing somewhere (I forget the details) and we see the very end of it. For a second you see a hand come out of the well, and when I saw that I knew she was going to climb out. Not sure if it was an error, or if it was intentional (maybe because the curse had progressed several days she was closer to getting out?).

Hmm, I saw her more as someone who was naturally assertive but also had to step up and take control of her life. Her relationship with Noah broke down because he found her overbearing while she found him too aimless. Then she had to be a single parent to her son, as well as make a living as a journalist (which typically requires people to be fairly pushy).

If I were to meet Rachael in real life I might find her a bit forceful, but in the movie I really admire her drive. The story only happens because she's in it – she's the kind of person to go out and investigate the problem.

The part that really bugged me was where she is in Noah's apartment and tries to take over operation of the video equipment while he is trying to stretch the screen and then breaks it all. He is the expert and she still tried to "override" his expertise. Bugged me!

Lauren Smith LOL! I'm a bit like her in that sense; it bugs me when I notice people missing important detail or not doing something properly and I'd intervene if I felt comfortable enough or knew the person very well. She knows Noah intimately, and she knows he can be kind of slack, so I can totally understand her behaviour. And they end up laughing about it anyway.

In narrative terms it introduces the intriguing extra bit of footage on the tape but prevents them from examining it right away, while also making perfect sense for the character and showing us a bit of what their relationship is like. Nice bit of writing :)
