Peter. Thank you for your review. I would like to point out, however, that when I wish to communicate information to a fellow author in one of these groups, such as spelling or grammatical errors, I am careful to do so by personal message, away from public gaze. We cannot lose sight of the fact that a Goodreads review is a place where members of the public go to research a book before buying. I think they would be surprised to find such detailed writing advice like you wrote in the review of "In a House in Yemen"
I don't have an issue with the score - everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just think that a Goodreads review is not an appropriate place for advice such as yours.

Peter Prasad (goodreadscompeter_prasad) | 50 comments Thank you, Brenda. Duly noted.

Kevin Futers (gruffling) | 33 comments Finally picked up Gurl Posse Kidnap - should be reviewed by the 21st!

Peter Prasad (goodreadscompeter_prasad) | 50 comments Me and the GURLS are excited to see if you like us. :)

message 212: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments The group ends on the 21st, come on folks lets get those last few reviews in and end on a high.
if you're having a problem let me know, we all have unexpected problems that can pop up.
Please bear in mind that if you don't complete the reviews you sign up for, you are likely to lose the reviews you have received and you'll be placed on the naughty list so you won't be able to join another group.

message 213: by Peter (new)

Peter Prasad (goodreadscompeter_prasad) | 50 comments Stunning review, Kevin, and I went back into the text and cleaned up five typos for Valentina. Dude, you are The Man. For you, I'll make Sonoma Knight #3, GUT-CHECK GREEN, Free on Friday at Amazon. Thanks again. - Peter

Peter Prasad (goodreadscompeter_prasad) | 50 comments Dear writers in this review group -- now that we have been through this process with some great reviews, some good and some not so good -- WHAT DID YOU LEARN? Please leave an off-the-cuff value statement. I'll do mine in a week as I have one more review to do. On'Ya Authors!

message 215: by Alison (last edited Jun 17, 2014 10:58PM) (new)

Alison Cubitt (httpgoodreadscomlambertnagle) | 83 comments A big thank you to F.S. for her very fair and even handed review of Fractured. It was an experiment posting a short story prequel here – but I'm really glad that I did. We developed Fractured as a screenplay first before the short story. It's currently in development. I take your point that the writing style is therefore a little underwritten and that we don't explain what fracking is. So some food for thought there... To answer Peter's question - what did I learn? That the review process is invaluable. So thank you to all my reviewers it's been a really worthwhile experience. Alison LN

F.S. Fayth (fsfayth) | 24 comments Alison - Lambert Nagle - thank you for your kind thoughts.

Peter - OK, I've learnt so much more than words can write, but then I feel I had more to learn being a novice. However, these lessons will and have shaped my future writing, so I'd like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone for letting me be a part of this valued group. Good luck to everyone, and best wishes.
FS

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Thanks Kevin, down to the wire now, three more reviews to get in to have this group complete.......

message 219: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Futers (gruffling) | 33 comments Feedback on the review process: I think that I have received some excellent reviews for my book and welcomed the criticism as well as the praise for The Lord's Poet.

It is a very difficult process putting your work in front of an audience that may not normally read your genre, but I think there are advantages, because all writing should be accessible to whoever picks it up. The only advantage of genre specific review would be that you would have a better idea of what your target audience might think of the book.

Reviewing the four books was a great experience and I have experienced highs and lows. I am even glad that I read the book that I gave the lowest rating to, as it did reveal information about a group of people I had very little understanding of.

I think the non-reciprocal part of this arrangement has also been ideal for the honesty of the reviews. I have engaged in reciprocal reviews in the past but i do not think that I could do so again. I will probably be back in a future group, but I have a few books waiting to be read at home, so I might give it some time.

Thanks to everyone for writing the material that I have read and for taking the time to review what I have written.

Good luck to all for the future.

Scott Spotson (scottspotson) I enjoyed this group too. This was a very different group and I say this because of the different tastes. Kevin had an ancient English book and a couple, as authors, had an environmentally themed book. Peter Prasad delighted us, as always with his witty and insightful comments. It's been fun!

So, Peter, did that qualify as an off-the-cuff statement?

Actually, I have added chapters to the beginning of The Four Kings to introduce Amanda earlier, and show what kind of person she was at the beginning. And I've hired someone in economics to beef up the facts and arguments for the political debates.

Agree 100% Kevin especially your point about non-reciprocal reviews. I'm looking forward to coming back to the Goodreads review group once the book I'm currently working on is complete.

Ronin (trishaalindsey) | 20 comments This just in! A Mug shot posted on a police site, in spite of the fact that it's of a convicted, presently held felon has over 250,000 likes, and growing. Comments have ranged from comical, threatening, but mostly about his handsome face and eyes! That's my demographic, when you know better, but just can't say no. Read this article and maybe you'll see that a large amount of not just our society, but the world in general due to our media, are 'Suckers for a pretty face'. If you haven't ever felt that way, either count yourself blessed, or look out, your toxic eye candy moment may be just around the corner. If you cut and paste it, or Google it, you can find the story from Fox 5 News, DC

Fox 5 DC & MyFoxDC
Take a look at this picture - are you looking at a fashion model, a movie star, a famous singer??? Wrong - Wrong - and WRONG!!!! You won’t believe how popular this picture has become and what this handsome fella did to get all of the attention!!!!! READ THE WHOLE STORY: http://bit.ly/1ifypaC

Ps, looking forward to your book drop, Peter!

message 223: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Sorry Ronin, I don't get why this is relevant to the group?

message 224: by Peter (new)

Peter Prasad (goodreadscompeter_prasad) | 50 comments Sleeveless comment, Scott. Remember the opening of Butch Cassedy & The Sundance Kid? The camera was on Redford's face for half a minute before he said anything. People need to know who the hero is and who to root for right off the bat. Readers are way conditioned by TV and movies (Car chase scene every 6 minutes). They'll forgive typos, misplaced pronouns and awkwardisms if THE STORY MOVES.

It's all about story, not modern psycho-babble or processing your writer's angst. It's a competitive world, so bite back. GUT-CHECK GREEN is free this weekend. It hit #10 Kindle Terrorism already, and I have not yet begun to spam. Please, have at it:

http://www.amazon.com/Gut-Check-Green...

If you like it, please write a short review, as wild and wicked as you like. THANK YOU!

Now, on to my final book report.

message 226: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Thanks Tony, that's you all done.

Come on Peter and F.S. I don't like to nag but I've got a lot more groups to look after at the moment, and I've love to get this one wrapped up.
You've both received your 4 reviews, please remember your commitment to your fellow authors.
