Chapters 1-5 (view spoiler)[ I'm not really liking this so far. I find it a bit of a bore to just read about the group travelling. This feels like the same sort of thing that happened to me with Eragon when they were just travelling. I find reading about that boring. Also, I feel like Allison's character is becoming more iffy. I know that she's still strugging with Zeke's "death" but the way she is right now seems unnatural to me. Jackal is still being classic Jackal, and Kanin is being pretty closed off. I really hope this book picks up the pace, which is also the problem I found with The Eternity Cure. I know I'm only 25% in, but right now it's a bit of a struggle to read. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 6-10 (view spoiler)[ Things have started to get a bit more interesting. Allie found Zeke and returned him to normal, at least momentarily. I'm predicting that at some point, Sarren is going to get his hold back on Zeke and turn him on them again. I'm hoping that if Zeke dies, he at least dies as himself and not as a puppet being controlled by Sarren. I'm excited to see what happens over the next half of the book. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 11-15 (view spoiler)[ Things have finally started to get more interesting. The group finally decided to do something other than travel and have arrived in Eden. Allie and Zeke finally did the do (yay)! It seems like they're about to set off for the island, and I'm excited to see what happens. I have a feeling that seeing Sarren again will trigger something in Zeke and he'll maybe turn on the other 3. I'm really starting to like Jackal more, and it's a relief that he's had a level head through this, and his sarcastic comments bring a bit of amusement to a dark time. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 16-end (view spoiler)[ Things started getting pretty intense near the end! I found the final battle pretty excited, but I'm still pretty confused as to how Sarren came back. Also, why did Allison become a Master vampire? I'm still pretty confused how that happened as well. I was pretty sad that Kanin died, but I'm glad that Allie and Zeke were both alive in the end. Jackal was probably my favourite character in this book. (hide spoiler)]

I did find the scene with the daughter and mother quite moving, it was really sad to experience.

This part I kind of rolled my eyes at:

Chapter 7

(view spoiler)[It's yet another book about crossing the country on foot. I too am no longer finding it interesting.

Sarren slaughtering people and destroying food source is not as high in shock value as was probably intended. Especially not in relation to the mother and daughter scene, which gave the victims identity and allowed us to form an emotional connection. I would have cared if these people were slaughtered.

Why are they even bothering to track Sarren? They know where he's going! They could just take a different route to Eden.

Then there's the following him into Old Chicago. WHY? Just keep going. Get to Eden. Get the cure. Then worry about Sarren.

Vampire Zeke? Eh. This feels like such a lackluster, unsurprising twist. It would have been better not to have that last scene in book 2 where we learned his story wasn't over.

Even him stabbing Allied is not that surprising based on the overly long foreshadowing on blood frenzy that preceded this chapter.

Finding it hilarious that Jackal was the one to slap sense into them.

I am finding myself missing Sarren. Possibly because not a whole lot of interesting has happened yet. (hide spoiler)]

I'm sure it's going to pick up soon but so far I feel like this book could've been a LOT shorter.

It really has been a lot of the same over and over. (view spoiler)[I think this series would have worked better as a duology. A lot of this book is just filler. Which leaves me a little miffed, as I'd had such high hopes. (hide spoiler)]

Wow that was tough to finish the book, but when they finally confronted Sarren it got better.

I liked the poetic end for Kanin. It was sad, but Kanin got the redemption he was looking for :-/.

I kind of liked the somewhat predictable but happy ending. Jackel goes off to do his own thing, which doesn't seem too evil, Zeke and Allie are off to save the world together, with hopefully less whining and drama haha.

Now I have to decide what book to read next because I have no idea!
