This book is a short chanpter book from the 80's, I believe. From what I can remember, it is about a young girl that is magically transported to medieval times for some kind of quest. Her black cat comes with her. He is turned into a boy to help her on her journey. They fall for each other, but he starts to turn back into a cat creating much young angst. I think it ends happily though. I'd love to give it to my daughter, since I loved it so much.
