Could it be something by Mary Elizabeth Braddon? She doesn't appear to be lesbian, but her name pops up on syllabi of Victorian queer novels as someone who stretches the boundaries of female sexuality/ employs tropes of sexual transgression. I've never read her so I can't say how likely she would be.
