Andy | 2124 comments This is my night for vaguely remembering stories. In this one, a retired elementary school teacher is reading old essays by his students (from the 1960s, I think) - and one of them is about a mysterious man who befriends him, and shows him things about the future - like (what is obviously to the teacher in the present) the movie "Apocalypse Now." The teacher eventually realizes that the student grew up to be an antiwar activist, and the man from the future was an alternate version of (view spoiler)

Andy | 2124 comments If I recall correctly, our timeline is the corrected version -the original war went much worse.

Andy | 2124 comments Think I found it - while looking for a story for someone else, I found a reference to "Collector's Item" by Barry Longyear. http://www.uchronia.net/bib.cgi/label.... I'm definitely going to get the book that has this, and check it out.

Andy, do you want to call this solved, or do you want to check the book out first? Be sure to let us know!

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Well, there's also the 'possibly solved' folder, which is what I use, while I'm waiting to acquire books that I think might solve my questions...

Andy | 2124 comments Now in the Solved Folder, since I got the collection it's in and confirmed that I had the right story.
