I second every one of Pat's recommendations! Those are some of the most important books in what I would consider the "Adult PNR/UF Canon"

Ok, Maddy was a polite person and didn't suggest her own series. So I will. Sleeping With the Wolf is the first in her time travel series After the Crash. I enjoyed the whole series.

I'd also suggest that you read the Alpha & Omega by Patricia Briggs. They are a parallel series with her Mercy Thompson series, and some of the later Mercy books depend on some of what happens in the Alpha and Omega books.

Another series I've enjoyed is Marjorie Liu's Dirk & Steele. Tiger Eye is the first.
