Icy-Cobwebs-In-Space (readingreindeerproximacentauri) October Mod Read will hopefully comnence Oct. 5. (I've been ill all week, and fallen behind.)

Anyone who has read the book, or who wants to read it, is welcome to join in.

Kind of synchronous, starting the 5th Wave on the 5th.

Icy-Cobwebs-In-Space (readingreindeerproximacentauri) The 5th Wave (The 5th Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey
THE 5th WAVE is actually the first novel in a trilogy;followed by THE INFINITE SEA and THE LAST STAR. presumably, some of our protagonists will survive to populate these sequels. I think it's intriguing that the author uses the numeral 5, instead of the noun five.

Here is the Goodreads description:

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker.

Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

I've never read this, even though I've owned a copy for a long time. For some reason, the description puts me in mind of Monument 14 (Monument 14, #1) by Emmy Laybourne

Icy-Cobwebs-In-Space (readingreindeerproximacentauri) Okay: after 14 consecutive days with a bad cold, with 12 children in the house, and 3 kids and one adult with the flu, I'm starting this today. I hope I like it.(smile) anyone read it? Opinions?

Marianne (mariannegie) | 27 comments I'm working on it! It's one that I bought for my Kindle on sale a while back but hadn't gotten around to reading, so this was a good excuse to bump it up to the top of the queue.

Icy-Cobwebs-In-Space (readingreindeerproximacentauri) Great, Marianne!
Looking forward to your input.

Icy-Cobwebs-In-Space (readingreindeerproximacentauri) Chapters 1-7:
First of all, first person narrative. I'm real touchy about 1st person POV,so I'll see. But as I think about it, weren't Monument 14 abd Station Eleven in 1st person too? ( and all three titles have nunbers as significant).
What I like so far:
1-ALIENS!
2-1st Wave is an EMP. That's so realistic [even without aliens]
3-
the high school scenes, classroom and gym, once the EMP occurs: realistic, and elicited my empathy

Marianne (mariannegie) | 27 comments I liked this one. It reminded me a little bit of The Host with (view spoiler). The multiple points of view were confusing at first, but I feel like that was on purpose. We were supposed to keep guessing who could be trusted, just like the characters did. I know I kept changing my mind on who was good and who was bad. It was pretty close to the end before I could see how everything was going to turn out.

Icy-Cobwebs-In-Space (readingreindeerproximacentauri) I remember reading THE HOST. I had a strange reaction to it, strange since I love anything involving aliens. Hope I don't have a similar reaction to The 5th Wave.

Marianne (mariannegie) | 27 comments Mallory, did you ever finish this one? My library had The Infinite Sea available as an ebook, so I went ahead and read that one as well. There was a pretty big twist in that one that made me question everything we learned in the first book. Now I'm really anxious for the last book!

Icy-Cobwebs-In-Space (readingreindeerproximacentauri) I haven't finished the Mod Read, no, and I don't have the sequels. I prefer to read a series as a set when possible. Your comment inspires me to do so!
