Gita Reddy | 66 comments The Ant Thief is a book for kids- ages 3-7. I can't decide between two covers. Please help.

Joe Jackson (shoelessauthor) I'm partial to https://www.goodreads.com/photo/user/...

It seems to better demonstrate that the ant is the thief and not the object being stolen. It also has more to keep the eye, whereas the second is darker and may even be a turn-off to smaller children.

Thanks, Joe.

Saradia Chatterjee | 9 comments I found the first one more attractive! :)

message 5: by Sandy (new)

Sandy Depends on what you're going for. First one is a more benign, "friendlier" looking ant. Second one makes him look a little scarier so it may depend on your ant's personality. Is he a good guy or a bad guy? I like the scarier, blue cover...it's very eye catching.

Nik Krasno | 62 comments I like the first one better. I think the 2-nd one is too scary and psychedelic for small kids and maybe for their moms, who supposed to be paying for the book

Trang Tran (trangreeny) | 41 comments I like the 1st one better :)

message 8: by V.W. (new)

V.W. Singer | 141 comments I prefer the second one too. Theft is associated with darkness and wrong doing, and there is nothing wrong with letting children know that there are bad things in this world, just as the original fairy tales were intended to do.

message 9: by Richard (new)

Richard Watson | 1 comments The first, sunny, one looks more like a children's book, and is a better-quality image.
But, what Sandy said: depends on the personality of the ant.

message 10: by William (new)

William Soppitt | 14 comments On the face of it I would go with the more professional first one.
The second one may put parents off getting it. After all its the parents who will buy it.

Gita Reddy | 66 comments Thanks, everyone, for the feedback and the help. I'll go with the Cover 1.

Thanks. When I made the blue cover, I tried to make him scary, and it looks like I succeeded rather well. But The Ant Thief is not really evil, and repents in the end, so maybe the cover is too dark....

Thanks for the insight. He's a thief who reforms in the end. But he isn!t really dark and evil.

Teri Dluznieski (horsewisevt) | 43 comments I would also ask- is this a picture book? if so, which cover is closer in style to the art or feel of the story?

with the second all-blue cover.. maybe smooth out the jaggedness a bit, and/ or make the ant not quite so full-sized... also, there is nothing on this cover to raise the question or tie into the thief-aspect..

the first cover seems more complete, including the golden ring on the ants/ arm/finger... there is a bit of a story demonstrated in the first cover, that the second all-blue cover, is lacking...

the first one makes me ask-wonder.. where is the ant going and did he steal that golden ring... curiosity points..

the all-blue cover feels a little intimidating (word?) and it doesn't relay any story-context:)

does that help?

It does! Thanks.

message 16: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I agree with most votes. I was going to say the second one, but it does seem a bit scarier as a children's book. The first does seem more child friendlier and like was stated above, tells more of a story with the ring on it, and the smile relays that the ant is not an evil character.

The eyes on the second one looks scary.
