SOLVED. Short story/book about a boy trapped in a house. [s]

Young boy is trapped in a house with a large man/monster keeping him there. Other boys are trapped there too. Read it in the early 80's, but it could be much older.

The Thief of Always? This one comes up a lot. Do you remember any other details?

Thanks for the response. I don't think that's it though. I remember the story being darker. At one point the boy escapes to the yard, but the monster comes out and pulls him back in.

Doesn't sound like it. I think its from a book of short stories, probably written before 1980.
