I found quite a few books listed on Goodreads that don't have any cover images associated with the book, though I have them in my personal collection. Although I see the 'add a cover image for the book' space, I don't see any way to save the image once I get it uploaded. Do I have to go through a librarian for this?

Yes. We would need the ISBN or ASIN of the edition you scanned/photographed and can then add the cover.
Who would I give the isbn to, and where?
And how do I get the image to the librarian?
You can post the ISBN to this thread, or any other thread you start under "Book cover help."Post the image on your profile, in the same area where you put your profile picture. After it's been uploaded to the book by a librarian, you can delete it from your profile.
You would post the ISBN in a thread in this topic (Book Cover Help), and you should be able to add the images to your profile page ("more photos" under your profile photo). We can get them from there.
Well--I posted the cover scans of 14 books to my profile, along with the ISBN's (for those that had them), and the publishing information. I have quite a few more, but I think that's good for the moment. I had tried to upload the cover scan of the George Simenon book, and ended up accidentally creating a new entry. The entry for the book is correct--I was just trying to supply the cover scan.
If you still need me to post more info here, let me know.

Cannot find a listing for this edition
What resource do I use to identify a book if it was published before an ISBN was assigned? I understand that many books which were published without an ISBN were later reprinted, and given an ISBN then--but it also seems to me (especially with books that have many editions), that different ISBNs are used whenever the edition has undergone some changes.For instance, considering the book in my above post--Steven Runciman's History of the Crusades Vol I there are six different paperback editions listed, each with a different ISBN, and none of which correspond to the publishing information that's listed in the edition I have.
Is there an easier way to get the needed information to a librarian?

If there isn't any match with other details, publisher & date etc., it'll be a matter of adding a new edition with your info & cover. I don't know the answer to your query in #15 re ISBN resources. Some older books have had ISBN/ASINs added after the fact, which I believe GR tries to avoid.
I jumped the gun on #14--I thought you were wanting me to go ahead and create the listing. You can delete my copy of the book.As far as the others that are still on my profile, I'll see if I can't create the listing.

The book I've linked to matches most of the details of my copy, but I think the publishing date is wrong. The original copyright date of 1928 is ascribed to Dial Press. This Tudor Publishing Co. edition is dated 1956. Unfortunately, that's all the publishing information listed. I think the listing has mistakenly listed the original date instead of the date of this later edition.
