The Parlor PI's discussion
October Mystery 2015 Selection. PI's, start you engines, PLZ.
Okay, my pick...one from me for now; there's another title I need to get more info on. (Maybe save it for New Year if it takes place at another time of year). Anyway, this is mine. You may pick three if need be. Not a rule etched in stone. Just a suggestion.

Jill, I've sent a few over the months but other than our regulars coming and going, no one responded. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Is there a link or send formula that you know of? I receive invites time to time and again, I wonder if I'm doing it right.

Good job X's 2, Jill and Allison...or is that 3? Okay, I will look further into your directions, employ and see what we can see. Thanks bunches. Yeah, even if PI's show up every now and again it'll liven up The Parlor. A few more regular, loyal PI's would be nice! Even though we are a small group, I feel we are a great group. We read some great titles, casual and comfy guidelines and time to time have special author visits. Thanks again, PI's!

Has anyone heard from J?
I agree. 8 - 10 active would be nice. Haven't heard anything from J. She writes sometimes and then there's a space. Hope she's okay.
Heard from J today. She's having a procedure soon and will know more in a few days. We're lifting her up in healing thoughts and prayers. ;-)

How's everybody else doing? Pretty quiet lately on the PI front...

Got out to B&N-Star$ this weekend. Had to kick off season with their pumpkin spice frappe. So-so. I think you PI's need to get w/corporate and show them how it's done. ;-)
As I haven't won thee Lotto, I'm applying for seasonal work. Ugh. Got use to working from home office (a bit dry lately) and am spoiled. But, it'll only be pt time, discount, fa la la la spirit etc; we'll see how it goes. :-/
Still reading though. Always got to allow time for reading!

Today we are piling back in the family truckster to go go-carting with the "kids" (me and my husband, lol). Oh and some real kids too to make it look legit.
'Sposed to have some rain tomorrow so will be able to get my reading in too. Always with the reading lol.
Pumpkin Spice frappe huh...might have to play around with a recipe for that so you can make them from home :)
PI's, your fall kickoffs sound great. I'd love temps in the 60's - 70's. Trade ya.
Got the car shows down, did go go-carting once upon a time and though I've done crab cakes, what I wouldn't give for the authentic WA variety!!
Good day sunshine. Early mornin' trolling Dunkin' for a decent cuppa and later got some sun. Haven't done either in a while. Productive day. ;-)
Allison, I know your homemade pumpkin drinks have ta be better than the one I had. ;-)

Well thank you for the kudos on the pumpkin drinkies: had Pumpkin Spice COCOA this morning and it was delish! of course, chocolate whip cream on top helps ;) It was a dry cocoa mix that I bought at the Portland OR "Worlds" Biggest Cmas Bazaar here last year. I try to buy some of their cocoa every year.
So, a frappe, is basically a blended coffee drink mixed with ice? Is that right? I could come up with a recipe for that I'm thinking...

So far we have 4 options but I'm sure some of the others who read this board have some ideas.
I'm looking but so far I'm stuck on Leslie Meiers' Candy Corn tome. Been lusting after that one since its mention on early season release list.
Frappuccino, Cappuccino...I get those mixed up. I like the ones w/whipped ice so I guess those are Cappuccinos.
Yum to that pumpkin drink, Allison.
Is the dry cocoa you noted sweetened or plain? Sounds like it might be sweetened.
I might try this one (forget name but will look it up) gourmet blend this year. Found it at season's end. I also like Lake Champlain's cocoa. The shaved stuff. Their powdered variety is too much like Swiss Miss which is okay in a pinch.

Hello Everyone:
I just joined your group and would love to join the October discussion. To nominate a book is it a fall/autumn theme?
I like soft-boiled mysteries and character driven suspense thrillers. I guess you could say, most mysteries without the graphics. I would like to read more cozy-type mysteries-there are sooooo many, so thought this would be an excellent place to mingle.
I also enjoy watching medical, legal and drama mystery/crime TV.

You can nominate any book you want. Feel free to join our discussion that we have going on right now. We are reading

I hope you enjoy our li'l group here.

Welcome MsG! So glad you found us. We normally read 1 book a month as a group but a few of us like to do a side read as well. Feel free to join the discussions already going for September, as Jill noted, there's still time.

Oh yes the fall creamers have hit here too and I'm so happy. Love them all!

I already had it marked as a "want to read" - again, great minds think alike, Jill. We could maybe do this as a side read 1 month.

MsG! You are most welcomed to The Parlor. We PI's have a neat li'l group which generally prefers cozies but sometimes we go a little gritty (very little). We're casual, easy on rules and regs. One teensy request - in discussions we can't help spoilers. I mean we're discussing the story so just indicate spoiler and drop down a few spaces so the eye doesn't pick it up. Thanks and PLZ enjoy.
As we look forward to October we usually stick with something of an autumn, Halloween theme. Any of that sub-genre would be great. Stoke the hearth, grab a high back or club chair. Toast your mug of whatever quaff is your pleasure and make yourself cozy. Pun intended. ;-)

Curious Beginning sounds interesting. I'm adding it to my list with hopes for the New Year or as side read?
We could keep our main read as Oct. -fall, Halloween, Nov. Thanksgiving-ish, Dec. - Christmas, winter holidays etc. but make our side reads any topic that gets the votes. This way it won't be only about the holidays...unless we want that. What say you, PI's?

Thanks, Allison. Did you post the cocoa-pumpkin drink recipe? If yes, just point me to it. If no, wouldya, couldya pretty PLZ with whipped cream on it?

That sounds good to me. I like the idea of the side reads being kind of random. Jill we could certainly have that one as a side read in Nov or whenever. you guys know I'm always up for reading anything. Just "say when" lol.

Allison, I've been a pretty good PI this year (least I think so LOL, IMHO, whatever works.) Sure whatever you like.
Jill, you are fine. I/we get you so not to worry. Just be well. Nothing worse than those blasted head colds. Take care.

That's great news, J! A Snoopy Dance in The Parlor for sure. Now you can truly enjoy Fall/Winter 2015! Yey!

Now Jill's got a head cold. Gosh I hate those. And it makes it hard to read.

My vote for October is for Candy Corn Murder. I had previously read one of Shelley Freydont's work and wasn't overwhelmed by it but this new one sounds interesting as does the proposed side read. Hmmm....
J wrote: "Welcome to our little group MsG! Trust you will enjoy your time with us."
Thank you J and I am very glad you had a good report.

How many are in for a side read of A Curious Beginning?
Not trying to be pushy but I have to budget for the new books:)
