Read about 10-15 years ago. Paperback. Probably MG, but I'm not too sure. I would say it's fantasy.

I think the sun and moon children may have been twins. The moon child lives alone in a forest or swamp, but ends up having to help his sun brother for some reason. Despite forming a sort of friendship, it is clear that the sun child is selfish and ugly on the inside.
