Very thorough guide -
"Getting a Handle on Happy" is a very in-depth look into the interplay of mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health and points out how we need to start viewing medicines (in a lot of cases) as just a short-term aid to help us get to the place where we can use natural healing techniques and nutrition to encourage the body's own healing and spiritual mechanisms to take over.
I love the balance of the book, honoring that we do need modern medicine but not at the risk of giving over our responsibility for our own healing journey. Taking responsibility is shown in this book as facing our issues, clearing our pasts, changing some basic nutritional habits, and making healthy mental, emotional and physical choices for ourselves.
Teri uses a lot of personally relatable examples to explain her points and teach new skills and coping techniques, and her informal style and humor throughout make the book an enjoyable read.
There are also several useful exercises to follow to help the reader start to map out their own thoughts and patterns, and to "help build these new skill sets and coping mechanisms."
I would recommend this book to anyone seeking to find balance in their lives, just starting to/willing to take on the responsibility for their healing choices, and interested in a down-to-earth journey through spirituality.
