Katie Bee | 4 comments Books such as the Handmaids Tale and 1984, frequently explore the connection between a state's repression of the people and its perversion of language. 'Newspeak' in 1984 is the most famous example and the Handmaids Tale also reflects this by using terms like 'unwoman' and 'Sons of Jacob'.
Are there examples today where the state misuses language to shape the narrative? For example - 'migrant' instead of 'refugee'.
