Sci-fi novel/series perpetually pregnant science(?) officer in space. /s

It's been a while since I read this, maybe 15 years.
I only remember one character in the sci-fi space series. She is a science/computer officer on the ship. She is described as being "Eternally Pregnant" While she is pregnant, she's a super genius. But a complete stupid nympho when not.

Lords of the Middle Dark is the first book in a series where one of the characters fits that description. She doesn't start out that way, but her father uses a computer to alter her biochemistry to force that change on her.
