Megan Anderson (ms_anderson) | 1464 comments Just throwing these two out there as recommendations:

The Woman Who Rides Like a Man
Named horse, romance, and adventure AND UG on AR Bookfinder (some of Pierce's other books might work as well)

Sir Apropos of Nothing
Humor, adventure, and romance (the others in the series probably work, too)

Megan Anderson (ms_anderson) | 1464 comments Ack! Posted too soon. And can I get this one approved (especially since a genre is about to fall off?)

Dodger
Adventure and humor on the main page, and there is a romance (he's motivated to help the girl because he has a crush on her).

message 53: by Deedee (new)

Deedee | 2344 comments Please confirm A Second Chance (The Chronicles of St. Mary's #3) (2014) by Jodi Taylor for Adventure and Humor genres; plus, the romance between our heroine Max and Chief Farrell is slated to continue. That makes 3 out of 5, and there's a possibility that it would be 4 out of 5 as "The Trojan Horse" from Homer's epic is involved in the plot.

Kim (goodreadscomkimber) | 708 comments You have Fire Study listed as an approved possiblity...would Magic Study from the series work as well? I see Romance, Adventure - just not certain about the named horse, which must be what qualified Fire Study? Could anyone confirm a named horse or not in book #2?

Thanks!

I can confirm that all the Study books, except probably the first, have a named horse. (Kiki) Actually, 2 and 3 have several. And the books from the Glass series all have named horses as well.

Yes, Sandy, that works! Added to the approved list above.

Yes, Megan, those all work, great job! Added to the approved list.

I think you'll need to have the genre verification thread confirm on Dodger, it is adventure at the moment, but you're right, that genre looks in danger of falling off. That's the official thread for validating genres at a given point in time.

LouLouReads | 221 comments Can I check that this is okay, even though it's non-fiction?

Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy: Four Women Undercover in the Civil War

B. The Goodreads description indicates that one of the women has a few affairs.

D. One of the women the book discusses, Emma, has a horse called Frank (named after the identity she assumes when undercover as a man).

E. History genre.

Lauren, I don't think Mr. Perfect will work, because you have to hit three of the five criteria, meaning it would have to have named horse as well, or "history" or "adventure" main page genres.

Ellen (missellen82) | 216 comments How about A Royal Pain (Her Royal Spyness Mysteries, #2) by Rhys Bowen -- historical, humor, romance?

message 80: by puppitypup (new)

puppitypup | 272 comments Ellen wrote: "How about A Royal Pain (Her Royal Spyness Mysteries, #2) by Rhys Bowen -- historical, humor, romance?"

No, Ellen, I'm sorry, but that won't work. "Historical" doesn't count for the main page genre "History."

message 81: by Ellen (last edited Oct 11, 2015 03:31PM) (new)

Ellen (missellen82) | 216 comments Generally History is a Non-Fiction Genre see definition at Genres Non Fiction History

The equivalent fiction genre is historical fiction. See
Genres Fiction Historical Fiction

The equivalent fiction genre is historical fiction.

That is probably why so few fiction books show History as a main page genre.

message 82: by puppitypup (last edited Oct 12, 2015 02:52AM) (new)

puppitypup | 272 comments Yes, I know. There are a few non-fiction "History" books on the approved list, such as Seabiscuit: An American Legend or Clouds of Glory: The Life and Legend of Robert E. Lee. There are also a few fiction books with the genre Alternate History.

I purposely didn't allow the word "historical" because that would have allowed Historical Romance with only Adventure or only Humor or only a Named Horse. I wanted books with at least three of the four elements: Adventure, Romance, Humor and a Named Horse. That's why I'm picky :)

I included the fifth option of "History" out of mercy, just in case there was someone who couldn't abide fiction.

I hope you can find one you will enjoy, Ellen. The Mummy Case looks like it may be similar to the one you were looking at, it satisfies Adventure, Romance and Humor.

Pretty sure that was a sales pitch, but just to be clear, that one won't work, there are no main page genres yet so it won't work for this task.

message 92: by Karen Michele (new)

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 2062 comments I was pretty sure about this one, so didn't ask, but reading the thread, I want to double check the genre listing for history because it is fiction book, Enemy Women by Paulette Jiles. Here are the requirements I planned to use:

B. Storyline includes a romance. The romance can be anything from a crush to a long-term marriage: Romance on main page and Description:

But young Adair is sustained by a strong heart, and love can live even in a place of horror and despair. Her interrogator, a Union major, falls in love with her and she finds herself returning her feelings despite herself. The major vows to return for her when the fighting is over, and before he returns to war, he leaves her with a last precious gift: freedom.

D. Storyline includes a named horse, mule, pony, unicorn, or Pegasus: Whiskey is the name of her horse.

E. Main page genre: History - Military History - Civil War and American History - American Civil War

Will this work? It was a fantastic book including primary source documents from the Civil War before each chapter, so I loved it no matter what!
