Steven (tbones) | 592 comments This topic is to discussion all things related to these two authors, and there is some hope that maybe, with enough interest, Pendergast might make an appearance within this or other topics :o)

Kellie Harrington | 1 comments That would be awesome they seem like down to earth authors

Angie | 225 comments I think I'm definitely going to try out these books, I've heard nothing but good things about them.

message 4: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments I've just gone and ordered the first one Relic, it was only £2.80 and that included next day delivery. I hope its as good as it sounds:) so many people on my friends list have given it 5stars.

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I have a copy of The Relic but haven't read it yet and here it is way better and different than the movie, and I really liked the movie. There is a sequel book to The Relic called Reliquary which I will definitely have to read eventually.

Hey being that I have 2 people popping in here already. I'd love to know, being that these guys write things with such mystery, suspense and thrills, should I title this topic (spoilers) or should I create 2 topics? One with and one without?

Also, I am about to start the 3rd book in a 3 part Pendergast titles called Two Graves. The first is titled Fever Dream and the second is Cold Vengeance. Talk about hard to put down titles and ones that really make you think about the characters and you see them evolve quite a bit through out the story.

So I sent a note to Douglas Preston about seeing if and when he or Lincoln Child might like to pop in here. I think eventually we will have to do a monthly book read of one of their newer titles. I think if we could get almost 279 readers interested in their work and buying a few titles maybe they could talk Pendergast into taking some vacation time and visiting us :O)

Angie | 225 comments I got Riptide this mornining Steven, after you recommended it I looked it up and I'm going to add it to my currently reading list. I'm looking forward to talking about it here:) I'd never heard of these authors until I saw what you were reading on your status. Is your wife also a fan? I can imagine the fight to see who gets to read the book fist, lol

message 7: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments LOL :O) Yes, my wife is a fan too and funny you should say that about the fight over who gets to read them first...she usually snags them from me first. She loved Riptide too. So happy you were able to find a copy. It amazing how many different covers they have for their titles too. From what I can tell about you, you will really enjoy it too :O) Now I just need to nag Preston into coming in here again. I haven't heard back anything again but he (specifically) is on tour with their new title that takes place in New Mexico.

Angie | 225 comments I'm up to p.145 in Riptide now and its so good:o That island is freaky isn't it, but the first injury was a shock:) I'd like to read another book as soon as I finish this but want to save Relic for May so which would you recommend? They are awesome:D
(view spoiler)

message 9: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Well, I would recommend reading Fever Dream but then you'd want to pick up Cold Vengeance and Two Graves. They are a 3 part series and they have been amazing. I am just about finishing up Two Graves.

message 10: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Oh yeah and that island is freaky and the even freakier thing is there really is an island like this up in Maine here in the United States. It's called Oak Island such an interesting place. You should Google it :O)

message 11: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments I'll do that Steven:) I've finished riptide this morning and it was brilliant:o!! I'm definitely going to get Fever Dream for my next read, I love that I can now work my way through all these books. Finding new authors is really cool:D The ending of riptide was great, Macallan got his revenge in the end didn't he, his final booby trap was something no one could of guessed:)

message 12: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Wow, yeah Riptide did have an awesome ending and I am so amazed at how fast you read. I totally wish I could get through a book that fast some times. I just have such a wacky schedule ... I think I need to take some vacation time and finish a book or two on it :O)

message 13: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments I ended up reading it all the night when I was at the hospital, there's never anything else to do there. I've got Fever Dream ordered:) I can't wait to start reading it:o Thanks for recommending these authors:-)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 66 comments I have read quite a few of these author's books, but I have yet to begin the new 3 part cycle. I loved the whole trilogy featuring Pendergrast's brother. The last one I read was the one about his wife and the bizarre circumstances surrounding her death. I may have to pick another one up soon.

message 15: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments Well Riptide was my first, I've got my son reading it now and he's enjoying it as much as I did:) Im trying to save reading Relic for the book read in May but its hard when its sat on my shelf, lol. Its calling to me that it needs reading:D

message 16: by Adam (new)

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 66 comments I haven't read Relic yet, either, Angie.
I think I have all of their books, but I started the series with the third or fourth book, Still Life With Crows, and read at least five. I have read a couple of Doug Preston's solo novels and really enjoyed two of them. I hated the one called Tyranosaurus Canyon. That one left me cold. But that is the only one I didn't like. Not a bad record.
I discovered Preston and Child at my local library branch, as they always seem to have an overabundance of books on the bargain paperback shelf. The library offers small used paperbacks for twenty five cents, large paperbacks are a dollar and hard cover books are two dollars. Preston and Child books can always be found within at least one of these sections. When I began reading Pendergrast books, I had no knowledge of Relic. I had seen the movie at the theater and really enjoyed it, but I was not aware that the books I was reading featured some of the characters from The Relic. Kind of makes me want to revisit that movie. I can't really remember who was in it, except Penelope Ann Miller... I think. Was Alec Baldwin in that?
Anyway, I want to read The Relic, and irs sequel, and the rest of the series, but I have a long list of books on my currently reading shelf to get through. But maybe I will try and join in on the group read you are waiting for. What group is reading that one?

message 17: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Tom Sizemore was in it and yes Penelope Ann Miller. I just watched it the other night :O)

message 18: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments I've never heard of it but my son will be able to find it online. I want to read the book before I watch the film anyway.was the film any good ?

My copy of Fever Dream turned up yesterday so I'm going to start reading that in a couple of days. I've just got to clear a couple of books of my currently reading shelf first.

message 19: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hi Angie,
The film to The relic is very good but it is a different beast than the book for sure. So don't go into watching the movie after reading the book, expecting the book. I do look forward to hearing about how you like the book and the film. I am sure you will have some interesting feedback. As for Fever Dream, I know you will really enjoy it. The thing I love about these guys is, I get to learn things while reading their books as well. There is some German speaking in them and it was so cool checking out this Google translator thing to learn what these phrases mean and hear them spoken :o) And well I just really enjoy the FBI agent Pendergast so much.

message 20: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments Well I started Relic today, I've not got past the first few pages but it seems to be the kind of book thatgraps you from the beginning and doesn't want you to stop reading:-) is this the right thread to be posting about the book Steven?

message 21: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Oh I have to set up the discussion topic still but this is as good as a place as any to state that about the book :O)

message 22: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments I've still not started Fever Dream yet but Relic I have began and its so good:D its better than what I imagined it would be, but that's because I started watching the fiim before the book, lol I don't think agent Pendergast is in the film is he?

message 23: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments No he isn't which is why I think they need to do a reboot of the film. The Relic is actually book 1 in the Pendergast series and he isn't even in the movie. The movie is better if you watch it first then after reading the book...at least then you don't know what you are missing :o)

Angie | 225 comments I've ordered Reliquary but its a second hand copy that I bought for one penny from Amazon:D Its coming from America though so it'll take a couple of weeks to get here. The postage was only £2.80 as well so its a proper bargain!
