You are right, it is The Ghost of Fossil Glen by Cynthia C. DeFelice because I just read this book recently.

The book begins with a girl being stuck. She was hiking and now she can't get down but then she starts to hear whispers that ..."
I see that this member has not been on since 2014 when this was added, but for anyone wondering I can confirm that Jessica was right.
Spoilers ahead:
The heroine is stuck on a cliff and hanging off of it, and a ghost speaks and advises her on how to get down. A diary does show up in her mailbox when she needed one for school, and writing appears. The girl had been murdered and the murderer does end up on the cliff in pursuit of the heroine.
The Ghost of Fossil Glen

This is definitely the book.

The book begins with a girl being stuck. She was hiking and now she can't get down but then she starts to hear whispers that help her get down. She's confused but then she goes home. Now this is the part where I might get something wrong. She finds a diary/journal. I don't remember how she got it. I think she needed a journal and she found one in the mailbox. ANyways, I think she leaves her diary in her room and when she comes back there's something written on it. And then with the help of the diary, she finds out that there was a girl that was murdered. And murdered, i think, by some famous person. And *MIGHT BE A SPOILER KINDA IDK*
she gets the man captured.
Well it wasn't a long book, and I don't remember the author or the publication date. I have a feeling that the title has the word whispers in it. (I'm not sure, okay?)
Plus I am 12 right now and I read it when I was 9 or 10 so don't think it's a huge famous novel or something.
