I read Jakob's Colours and wrote about it in the discussion thread. It's the best book I've read in a long time https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Finally, I can report that I read Mrs. Dalloway. I just finished it. It wasn't my favorite group read, by a long shot, but I may not ever have read it except for that either. I will update my finish in the group read thread too. I still have the 2nd group read book from the library and will start it now.
I read Ender in Exile. I am so glad the author wrote this "fill in the blanks" book between Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead. When I read Speaker for the Dead it was like being dropped into a foreign world. I enjoyed finding out the details of Ender's and Valentine's lives between the books. There is still a big jump into Speaker for the Dead but it is no longer a huge chasm. I loved Ender's ability to deal with people and how he mental outsmarted and overcame those who opposed him in this book.
I blazed my way through the 2nd Group Read book, Marina today. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. Many times, I had to remind myself that this was a YA book. There were some pretty far fetched things that happened, but I was captivated enough to keep going to see what would happen next. Honestly, my favorite part of the book is the way Zafon writes about Barcelona and the weather. They are characters just as much as the humans. I love the names of the streets and the places too.
I read Marina and discussed it in the group thread. I really enjoyed it despite the YA label, it felt so much more than that. The author's writing just moves like silk. I have to admit that parts of the book were a little too horror-like for my tastes but the end really resolved itself to my liking. This guy can write and this one was no exception. So glad to have finally has a reason to read it.
For this months theme I read Songs of Willow Frost which I thought was excellent and gave 4 stars. I discussed it in the appropriate thread.

I read The Silence of Bonaventure Arrow and discussed it in the buddy read. Like Peggy said, religion was a big part of the story. Some was appropriate and necessary to explain the characters, but it did become overwhelming. What was interesting was how the two characters used it - one in belief and the other to justify her actions. The story ended up being more of an ensemble piece, which at times added to the story, but at times detracted from it.

I hope you and Lynda enjoy it. Although be prepared there's a lot of heartbreak.
@ Joan -I see you read The Mrs. Dalloway Reader - I cannot see where you discussed the book in the "Character in the name thread". Could you point me in the right direction please?

Also thank you for explaining how to put in the book links -
I discussed Mrs. Dalloway in the discussion thread. My review post is on Sept 23 at 7:04.
I think I will read the reader though - I am one of those odd types that actually likes footnotes :\
I read and discussed Defending Jacob and Barbara the Slut and Other People for this challenge. Defending Jacob was engrossing and suspenseful though fairly disturbing because of the subject-matter. Barbara the Slut was a book I expected to be humorous, and it had some very funny moments, especially in the first two stories. But it turned out to be more serious in tone than I had expected. I liked the writing. Author has an easy, flowing style. Both books were ones I probably wouldn't have read without this challenge, and I liked both and am glad to have read them.
Oh, I meant to say that I read both books during September but just have been slow to get this reported (sorry).

Stop making me look bad."I thought I was going to be chased up soon so thought I had better post them ;-) My weekend was SO crazy and I have no idea what this week is going to be like so I thought I'd make the most of my quiet-ish morning. We have a floor in our bedroom but now we have no bathroom! Ahhh!

I've had my one and only (hopefully) canal water bath when I fell in! We haven't had a shower cubicle for a long time so we've been having washes on the boat and using our friends/families showers which I'm eternally grateful for. But now we have no wall to our bathroom and we took the toilet up to repair it but the repair job is much more difficult than we thought. So portaloo all the way this week until we can get it done.
