Janet Squires | 5 comments Hello Everyone,

My name is Janet Squires. I'm a writer with a passion for American Frontier history.

My interest in the historic West stems from the stories I heard growing up. My Irish/Cherokee family pioneered their way through Texas, New Mexico and Arizona as ranchers, miners and lawmen.

I'm a member of Women Writing the West, Western Writers of America and Western Fictioneers.

Lou Bradshaw (oldeyes) | 50 comments Welcome, Janet. Jump right in. I write western fiction, but try to keep it real with a lot of research. You'll find plenty of interesting characters right here on this page.

message 8: by Robert (new)

Robert Fetner | 7 comments Hello I'm Robert. Just joined the group and this is my first forum. I have three books out, two fiction and one self help. All three are available on Amazon Kindle and most other formats.
1)An American Gaucho- An ex Confederate soldier flees the the South when the war is lost and heads to Argentina to live among the Gauchos.
2)John Shane Wolf Bounty Hunter- What happens when a hardcore half breed bounty hunter gets stuck with an orphaned kid? He trains him to be his partner. This pair track down outlaws and are chased by Comanches. If you like the Clint Eastwood and Sabata Westerns you'll love this one.
Anyway great to be part of the group. Hope to keep the stories cranking.

Richard Lutman (goodreadscomrichard_lutman) | 69 comments I'm Richard. Just joined. I have three books on Amazon and have published over two dozen stories. Four are westerns. My new novel a contemporary noir set in MT is due out next year. I have a second web site that is dedicated entirely to the novel: www.patchofdirt.net.
Patch of Dirt is a story about a womanizing drifter who wants to turn his life around because he’s tired of being looked down upon. But can he succeed when he is hired by Frank Hill, an injured Viet Nam war veteran and duped to fall in love with his wife Rita?

Martin Marais | 4 comments Hi everyone. My name is Martin Marais. I am a self-published author and have recently uploaded my first western (The Bounty Hunters). I really enjoy reading westerns. My favourite (I'm British hence the weird spelling) to date is Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry, but I also loved True Grit by Charles Portis.

Duane Boehm (duaneboehm) | 36 comments Hi Martin,

Take Care,
Duane

Hello Martin, good luck with your novel. Being an American, I have one particular interest in British history and that is Jack the Ripper. Barb and I took the tour with Donald Rumbelow author of 'The Complete Jack the Ripper'. If anything it increased my interest in the case, and has given me some ideas for other novels to write. Best of luck.

message 20: by Darrel (new)

Darrel Rachel | 1 comments Hello everyone. My name is Darrel Rachel. I am the author of Harrington's Valley, which I would classify as historical western fiction. It is the story of three diverse individuals struggling to survive on the post Civil War frontier. There is a review here on Goodreads and on Amazon.com. Best wishes to everyone.

C. Hello everyone, my name is Chris. My dad was career Air Force and I was born in Kellogg, Idaho, the mining town discovered by a prospector's donkey! I lived out west most of my childhood except for two years spent in England, and then age 14-17 spent in Minot, ND, where I met and married my late husband.

Since I am a baby-boomer I fell in love with all the cowboys on television when I grew up, plus going to the rodeos, including the fabulous-not-to-be-topped 10-day celebration- Cheyenne Frontier days in Cheyenne, WY.

I love reading both historical and contemporary cowboy romances and frontier history, especially about The Harvey Girls, as well.

I'm looking forward to finding some great titles suggested from the bookshelf/reviews here[not self-promotion from authors[.

~Chris~

Harlan Hague (harlanhague) | 27 comments Chris, your comment about wanting to find some good titles to read will probably lead to your being inundated by invitations from authors. Have a look at my titles at harlanhague.us. My novel set in Idaho's Stanley Basin will be published this year. I enjoyed doing the research for that book since it required me to visit the region a number of times. The book was partly inspired by my wife's grandfather's experience operating a gold dredge on Stanley Creek. By the way, we had a wonderful experience living in England's north Cotswolds during a sabbatical year.

C. Thanks for the warning!

I edited my post to say "titles suggested from the bookshelf/ reviews[not self-promotion from authors], since I usually avoid those, especially by authors who only join goodreads for self-promotion and are not readers themselves and don't interact with readers or post reviews.
