25.7- Ellen R-S’s Task: Wonderful Overseas Assignments

This is 2 book Task. Read two books from different options. No books with the main page genre childrens or kids may be used for this task.

All books can be fiction or non-fiction.

For 25+ years I lived with my Husband at many USAF bases.

Option 1: Our first and second overseas assignments were in East Anglia, UK (RAF Bentwaters near Woodbridge and RAF Alconbury near Cambridge. Read a book set in or about East Anglia. Cities include Cambridge, Norwich, Peterbrough, Ipswich, Ely, Bury St Edmunds, New Market, Kings Lynne, St Neots, and Felixstowe.

These links may give you some ideas: Norfolk Crime and
Books set in England by County

Option 2: Our 3rd and last overseas assignment was Osan AFB, Republic of Korea from where I traveled the Orient. Read a mystery set in Korea (South or North), China or Japan. ”Mystery” must be a main page genre. The genre may be stand-alone or embedded. This list may give you some ideas - Mysteries Set in Asia.

Option 3: Our favorite overseas vacation was two weeks in Germany at Christmas. Read a book set in Germany or about Germany. This list may give you some ideas - Novels Set in Germany.

NOTE: For all options, the book must be set completely in the target country or area. Small exceptions (for instance, to establish a back story or a brief portion set in another place) are allowed.
REQUIRED: State the setting in your post. If the setting in the GR book description or metadata does not indicate the setting, please include a reference to establish the setting.

The links provided here are just to give you ideas - you do not have to choose a book listed. Be careful when using lists, however, as not all books on the list will fit SRC requirements, or meet the task requirement that the book be completely set in the target location.

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 923 comments Never Let Me Go is listed on the "books set in england by county" list under Norfolk, but since it's not in the metadata...

I've had it on my TBR for awhile: Has anyone read it and is it set enough there to work? (Figured it was worth an ask.)

Would you say it's set completely in that area (if you remember)? lol.

I actually got it from audible during a sale they had awhile back, so hoping to fit it somewhere.

It's set in the English countryside, but it doesn't say exactly where. The MC does go to Norfolk, but on one or two occasions only.

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments I'm thinking of Sidney Chambers and the Perils of the Night. "The loveable full time priest and part time detective Canon Sidney Chambers continues his sleuthing adventures in late 1950s Cambridge. "

Fandury | 957 comments If someone is looking for some good thrillers set in Germany, I can recommend the books by Sebastian Fitzek.

Most of them are set in Germany and for a lot of them there is a English translation. And if you understand German I would also recommend listen to the audio books read by Simon Jäger, as he does an fantastic job.

Another good set are the Philip Kerr Bernie Gunther books.

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 923 comments These are what I've found, just want to double check.

Sidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death is book #1, so would it be approved since book #2 is? Still says Cambridge.

Prisoner of Night and Fog for Germany. Set in 1930s Munich.

Thanks!

It works. Until 1894 Rushford was in Norfolk & Suffolk. It is now officially in Norfolk.

I found Rushford on my 1589 map of Suffolk.

puppitypup | 272 comments Thanks Ellen! I think I'm going to substitute the second in the series rather than the fifth for your Option 1 task, East Anglia. It takes place in Rushford too. Is that okay? Here it is.
