ABANDONED. I think this book starts with a girl diving into a ice cold lake...

Hopefully someone can help me find the name of this book. I think I remember it being a series.

It starts out with a girl running away from a monster in her home and after it leaves she has to dive into the lake to search for something. There is also a guy who is important and he sees threads that connect to everyone and everything.

There is also a race of maybe lizard type people who can change their shape into human. I can kinda remember the girl fighting with one that had turquoise eyes.

Well middle school now that I think about it. Around 2004ish and I'm not sure if the book was new or not.

Contemporary yes, not on a different planet. Not Hawksong. Was part of a series I'm sure.
