Mistborn might be your cup of tea, as it features sneaky people. Also, a Song of Ice and Fire has those, but only in the more recent books. Happy reading!Oh, and also The Way of Kings.

Thx for the reply! I have read the first book of mistborn and the first 2 of ASoIaF, so looking for something else.
It sounds like you would enjoy The Assassin's Curse, and I think also The Duchess of the Shallows. I've also just recently discovered the Chronicles of Ixia (book 1: Poison Study). And you've probably already read it as you seem to have done the 'classics', but just in case you haven't, The Lies of Locke Lamora doesn't have much romance (at least in the beginning) but it does have the best crew of thieves!
Here's two old ones:The Legend of Nightfall and The Return of Nightfall by Mickey Zucker Reichert. Great thief in these two stories.
There's also these ones:
Theft of Swords #1, Rise of Empire #2, Heir of Novron #3. These one are sequels to the 3 previous ones, but they were published later: The Crown Tower, The Rose and the Thorn. All of these are by Michael J. Sullivan.
Patrick wrote: "I highly recommend Assassin's Apprentice (and the rest of the series)."Oh yeah, these are the best. I can't believe I didn't think of them! LOL
Steven Brust's Vlad Taltos series. The first couple can be found in an omnibus: The Book of JheregI also like David Dalglish's "Haern the watcher" series, it starts with A Dance of Cloaks
Gentleman Bastard series has to be mentioned. It starts with The Lies of Locke Lamora. There's also the Shadow Saga that starts with Shadow's Son.
And nobody has mentioned all the Fafhrd and Grey Mouser stories, by Fritz Leiber? They essentially kicked off the meme.
The Lies of Locke Lamora, Throne of Glass, Graceling (although the last two are more YA). The Mistborn series starts off with the main character being a thief also.
I'm usually not an assassin fan, but Nix in the God's War. Loved the series--quite an unusual setting with a female dominated society with an Islam-like religion.
