Devon | 6 comments OK. This is a romance book. A librarian in a small town has hit an age, (30 if I remember correctly) and she still doesn't have a man in her life. So she decides to take matters into her own hands. She makes a plan with her best friend, (a woman who met a man online that she is going to marry, and she is trying to quit smoking) to go to the next town over and seduce a man so she can get pregnant. (She is a virgin) she goes to a hotel bar, and meets a man who takes her upstairs and sleeps with her. The girl does end up pregnant, and the man arrives in her town the next day to take over a ranch. They are in a small town and he eventually meets the woman at the library and guesses that she is pregnant. Then he thinks that she is trying to trap him, and make him look bad to his family. He hires her on as s live in cook at his home until the normal cook comes back.... and so on.
I have been looking for days. I just can't seem to find this book anywhere!!!

What year did you read this? What was the setting (time and place)?

Amber (Daisymau) (daisymau) | 1912 comments The only book I can think of is Open Season by Linda Howard.

Devon, I edited your header to add descriptive info so more people will click on it.

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Good job lobstergirl. I totally skipped reading it the first time it came around because I refuse to read badly titled (or untitled) threads. A description sure made it sound interesting :)

Yeah, I'm wondering why a librarian would suddenly become a cook....just one of the imponderables of literature, I guess.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 103 comments In Open Season the heroine is a librarian but not trying to get pregnant. She is 34 and lives with her mother and decides to change and get her own place. The hero is the sheriff. Very funny book!

Devon | 6 comments So the heroine lives with her best friend. (The room mate met a man online that she is going to marry. So it cant be that old time line wise. And it is in a small town.) The heroine gets to a certain age, about 30, and decides that she does not want to wait to get pregnant anymore. So she borrows a dress from her best friend, waits until she is ovulating, and goes to the next big town over. She doesn't want to get pregnant by someone in her small town. She sees a man who is attractive, and lets him seduce her. She is a virgin. She never tells him.. the girl and guy talk to help her get comfortable, and they both tell a story that is partially true. She decides that she will go through with it since he doesnt live near her. They have sex. She gets pregnant. Then he shows up as the new manager of a local ranch. It is owned by his family. But this is a chance to prove himself. He goes to the library one day and she Iis there. With a bunch of what to expect when you are expecting type books. He guesses she Iis pregnant. Then gets mad and assumes that he was set up by his uncles who hate him and want him to fail. She tries to explain. He doesnt care. At the ranch the normal cook is an older woman. And her daughter is about to have her first baby. So she needs to leave for a few months. At this point the heroine is in need of a job. The library didnt like an unwed pregnant woman.. pregnant by a stranger. The guy decides this is a great way to keep an eye on her and get her a job as the new cook. As the book continues, it follows down the typical love story.
Lol. You would think I would be able to find it, knowing all this. But I just cant seem to.. I hope this helps.

About what year or decade was it set in? Given that libraries today probably don't care that much whether you are having a child by a stranger...

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 103 comments A lot of small town libraries in the bible belt would care.

Probably the BYU library too...Bob Jones Univ. library...Regent University...

I guess I'm just used to the big city where 80% of the population has had an out of wedlock baby...

Devon | 6 comments It was more about the story. And since the room mate was marrying a man she met online, I would say this book took place within the last 10 years or so. The heroine didnt simply get pregnant. She tricked a man into getting her pregnant. And the library didnt care that she got ptegnant, it was a small town. She was only part time.

Aerulan | 1317 comments I haven't got any specific suggestions, aside from Open Season which is kinda close but doesn't fit, plus it's been mentioned before. So I can't be terribly helpful, but I thought I'd mention that there are some librarian in romance novel listopias that might be worth a look through.

A Baby of Her Own by Brenda Novak seems to match your description.

Reviewers on Amazon say, "Librarian Delaney Lawson is thirty years old." and "Now 30, Delaney Lawson had lived in the small town of Dundee, Idaho where everybody knows everybody. But she wants a baby so much that she was willing to go to the big city of Boise for a one-night stand. And she did, except that her one-night stand and potential father of her baby turned out to be Conner Armstrong, grandson of the owner of the sprawling Ranch Y and just moved in to town." From a quick scan of the preview, the heroine says: "I was depressed because you're marrying a man you met on the on the Internet..."
