Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The Goodreads app on my phone was trying to update for weeks. It would say it's updating then when it would say it was installing, it'd say 'invalid file packet' or something, then crash.
Last night I got fed up and uninstalled it, hoping to re-install.

It's downloading then crashing on the install.

Any ideas?

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I just downloaded it onto my Android phone for the first time and it worked fine.

You could try clearing the data cache - http://lifehacker.com/clear-all-cache...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Don't have the clear all thingy on my phone. :(

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Went through and cleared one by one, restarted, tried to download it again and same error message.

Pooh

Have you got enough free space on your phone? Sometimes an upgrade can stall because there isn't enough room for it. You in particularly will have lots of Goodreads messages to be stored which could be causing a problem.

Is it an older phone? I have just had to replace my laptop with a more powerful PC because the laptop couldn't handle one program in particular - Outlook. It may be that your phone is struggling.

You could try switching your phone off and back on again - the usual remedy. Many people leave their phone on all the time, which can mean that it doesn't get a chance to power down properly.

I dunno. I'm groping in the dark here.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments It's a Samsung Galaxy SII.

Seems to have plenty of free space.

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments That's getting to be an old phone by today's standards, so it might be upgrade time. I have the SIII and am starting to think about replacing it.

This might help ...

The usual recipe seems to be to reset and try again. But you may eventually get to the point where the problem is that the phone just isn't up to the job.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yeah, I've talked to Geoff about maybe upgrading at Christmas.

Don't really use my phone much, except when we're travelling.

I'll have to think on it.

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I can recommend the Sony Z3 Compact as a potential upgrade. I got one earlier this year.

Like you, I don't use my phone all that much but it does the job and was a nice upgrade from my iPhone 4S that didn't break the bank.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Thanks Mikey!
