Elsbeth (elsbethgm) Hi everyone!
So nice, when I joined this group, there were only 2 of us and look now!
Around The World In 80 Days by Jules Verne is scheduled until the 15th of march. I was just wondering if any of you who didn't read it yet would still want to read it (and maybe need a little more time to do that)?
Or would you want to start reading something else, starting 16 march?
And, if so, what would you all like to read?

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) I would like to make some nominations for our next book.
Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup .
Or: Lady Audley's Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon
Or what do you think of: The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins .
These are just some books from my to read list.

Christina T. The Moonstone is a great book! I read it last year and was really surprised how much I enjoyed it! :)

That's also on my to read list! Like The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain or The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain or The Time Machine by H.G. Wells or The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells .
There are so many great books! It will be hard to choose!

I read No Name by Wilkie Collins last month. I was pleasantly surprised by that one as well. So I wouldn't mind reading another one by Wilkie Collins .

Was No Name good? It sounds interesting. Though in the last 24 hours I finished Little Women, and Pride and Prejudice - so I think I need to read a couple present-time books before diving back into the old days... :)

Another note on The Moonstone...I even knew the ending because I accidentally read it in a review before beginning it...and I still thought it was good and found myself caught up in the story regardless.

I really loved No Name! It was my first classic which wasn't really romantic (like boy meets girl and they fall in love - realizing it only after 400 pages or so :)...). Not that those things don't happen in this book, but it is not the main theme. Well, the first chapter makes you believe it will be just like a book by Jane Austen, but than all sorts of stuff happens, which makes it more like a criminal novel or so...

Anjelica Restle (claraoswald0794) | 3 comments I really liked a Farewell to arms by Ernest Hemingway. If you haven't read it yet you must! how Hemingway interweaves this love story in the backdrop of the war is just incredible!

message 12: by Elsbeth (new)

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) I don't know. There are so many great books. Should we vote?

message 13: by Elsbeth (new)

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) Or does our Mod. just pick a book this time and we vote next time?

I would be up for any one of these, I have them all in my bookcase just waiting to be read. "The Magic Mountain" by Thomas Mann perhaps?

I am so sorry I couldn't make a poll for june :( My laptop was broken and it didn't work on my phone :/ I give you all some more time to read The invisable man and make a poll with the books that were mentioned here : The magic mountain by Thomas Mann , The Moonstone, No Name, The adventures of Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry FInn; Farewell to arms by Ernest Hemingway ; 12 years a slave, The War of the Worlds ( I will not include this one in the poll though because we have read 2 HG Wells novels so far and I think we should read something by someone else first before we read the next HG Wells novel)
