Heir of Fire
question
Dorian or Chaol: That is the question!

Personally, I was a Chaol fan up till Crown of Midnight, but then suddenly, Dorian kind of changed before my eyes in the second novel. He just seemed deeper and more intuitive with Celaena, and a much more complex and sensitive character overall. Now, I am confused. Feel free to express your thoughts!

I have got to be honest... I still love chaol. Yes, he was indecisive, but wouldn't you be if you lived your entire life being dedicated to the king and then suddenly realizing it wasn't right? I think he was just having a hard time with his conflicting emotions. He loves Celaena, but he was scared of some parts of her because of what he had been taught since he was a child. I still like Chaol because near the end of the book he makes the decision to stand up for Celaena and Dorian.
“Chaol kept his sword drawn. “I will not go to Anielle,” he growled. “And I will not serve you a moment longer. There is one true king in this room—there always has been. And he is not sitting on that throne.”
Dorian stiffened.
But Chaol went on. “There is a queen in the north, and she has already beaten you once. She will beat you again. And again. Because what she represents, and what your son represents, is what you fear most: hope. You cannot steal it, no matter how many you rip from their homes and enslave. And you cannot break it, no matter how many you murder.”
Granted it did take him a while to come to this realization, but he was going through his conflicted emotions and sorting them out. At the very least, I think that Chaol and Celaena should still be friends.
And if that happens then TEAM ROWAN ALL THE WAY!

Honestly, the first half of Crown of Midnight I was a Dorian fan. But that completely changed after the poison incident. I am a huge Chaol fan now! Plus, Celaena gave Chaol all of her money in her will. Also, Dorian isn't mentioned as much in Crown of Midnight. He seems really distant now and too busy for Celaena.
Dorian! I just feel that they would make the ultimate King & Queen.... "Then they would set about changing the world together." ::swoon::
I swear everyone is always choosing chaol, but seriously, I don't see why. celeana may have had a fucked up story about Nehemiah but really it could have been prevented if he told celeana. and he doesn't accept her. she is who she is buddy and there is nothing you can do about it, and it's not like she's some selfish bitch, she could easily of moved to wenndlyn and just lived but she didn't. she is doing everything she can to save the whole world from the king of adarlan and she is risking her life and the lives of others to keep a promise that sound impossible but dorian on the other hand accepts the celeana is fae and also NEVER was disgusted by her( well from the little we read in his pov) just saying. but I don't think they are good for each other, I want them to have some kind of epic friendship.
but not that I don't think they are both good guys, but I prefer rowan. he understands her grief about Nehemiah and her parents and he knows what it feels like to lose a lot, he also understands slavery and he physical pain she has gone through even though her life is a billion times shorter. I think that he may be the only one who truly accepts her.( in her whole life)
Nehemiah didn't understand and I thought that it was very stupid of her to order herself to get killed. I think that chaol doesn't accept the things he can't change about her.
I think dorian accepts her he doesn't he actually understand her and I think he was a tiny bit naïve about her in the beginning.
her mom tried hiding her powers and wouldn't train her because I believe her mom was scared of her daughter.
even if rowan doesn't end up w/ her I think she needs him in her life.

dorian ftw and to people who're saying dorian and celaena are like brother/sister : "the way the collar of his black jacket lay across his neck made her unable to sit still. She wanted to touch him, to trace the line between his tan skin and the golden lining of the fabric." bye
DORIAN! these books are great but too much painnn to my Dorian fan heart
I have loved Dorian since Throne of Glass and I will continue to be team Dorian and love him until the end of the 6th book!
Neither. No one deserves the hell that is Celaena.
The real question is [spoilers] HOW THE HELL ARE THEY GOING TO SAVE DORIAN?!?!! D: Poor guy

Im team 3....... TEAM ROWAN!!!! i used to love Chaol / Celeana but he seems to not completely understand Celeana he loves her when she's all pretty in her dresses enjoying luxury ( in that typical Celeana way ) but then seems to forget she's an ASSASAIN.. like when she goes all badass ardlans assassiny kinda thing he's surprised !! He should realise by now thats part of her. Dorian was never really a contender in my eyes, admittedly he got better in CoM but he's not right for Celeana. Its definitely team Rowan !
I don't see how after HoF anyone can be team Chaol, he is so incentive and dosen't accept her and Dorian and its really sad but I wouldn't want her to be with someone who treats her like that.
I've always liked Dorian most from the very beginning. However, Chaol was okay in the first book but by the end of the third his character was completely different. Starting the fourth, my mild like of Chaol has turned to severe dislike.
I have only read Throne of Glass, but I'm team Chaol all the way. I just feel like he actually love her. He didn't want to love her and tried not to, whereas Dorian, even though he said that he would do anything for Celeana... I'm just not hung up to him.
I feel like he's just too perfect. He likes book and all that. Whereas Chaol is just... Chaol.
When Celeana is with Dorian, she wants to be pretty and she feels specials. But when she's with Chaol, she's just herself (she drooled on him!)
I just love how Chaol doesn't want to love her.
And then, Dorian kinda knows that Chaol likes Celeana and still goes and flirts with her. And Chaol, he just stepped out. I know that Dorian's a prince and he can do whatever he wants, but I didn't feel like he was being a good friend.
I just love Chaol so much. He is much more developed. Well... actually, Dorian's very well developed, but, like I said, he's just too perfect. As if Sarah J. Mass wanted us to love him, but it just made me love Chaol even more. Because he didn't try. He was just himself. He was just himself and Celeana wanted to protect him.
Because he was himself and she was herself and they still founded a way to love each other.

I love Chaol and Dorian both with all of my heart, but I would have to say Chaol just because of how closed off he showed himself to be (based on past experiences) and I really hoped that he would find happiness even if it wasn't with Celaena... Those of you who have read up to Tower of Dawn.... ;)
Dorian is so much more noble. Chaol strikes me as annoying. He is still my favourite character.
I like them both for different reasons but if I had to choose between those two I would say may little love Dorian. On the other hand, if I had to choose someone to be with Celeana I would say Rowan all the way.
I like Dorian best as a character, but I prefer Chaol with Celeana. Butttttt that's still not my favorite ship if you get what I'm saying ;)
But I don't wanna give spoilers 4 Queen of Shadows
But I don't wanna give spoilers 4 Queen of Shadows
At first, I was really torn between these two, I was like "Oh, gosh I love Dorian", but then I was "Poor, Chaol", and then I was "let's see Celaena and Chaol get cozy...", but soon after I was "my heart is breaking with you Dorian". But as I read Crown of midnight and Dorian got more complex, layered and sarcastic he got the upper hand in my heart, not to mention all his attempts to forget Celaena and how he endured seeing these two together, for me this was the turning point for him. He wasn't a character in a romantic love denial of the real facts but at the same time he couldn't gave up his hope to be with her, the mysterious lady that had so much dark and light in her. Despite having less information about her and often only knowing the darkest sides of her, Dorian could see her essence and accept both sides of her, even if he couldn't understand her right away. So I guess Dorian really grown on me while Chaol only dissappointed me and became an annoying character.
I completely agree! I loved Chaol up until certain events of Crown of Midnight, and I think I'm with Celaena in that I can't forgive him. Dorian is becoming a very interesting character, and I can't wait to see what happens with him in Heir of Fire and the rest of the series. Right now though I don't think Celaena is at all ready to be in another relationship. Her last two relationships ended horribly and I think it will take her a long time, if ever, to come around to the idea of having a boyfriend again. If/When she does, I don't think her and Dorian would do well together (even though I love him)!I don't think their personalities would work romantically. They're much better off as friends or even a brotp! Haha but I'm really interested to hear what other people have to say about this!
I'm torn. Dorian is awesome, but so's Chaol. What I'm confused about is HOW THE HELL DID HE GET CAPTURED! HE'S THE CAPTAIN OF THE FLIPPING GUARD!
I am team Dorian. I think She loves Chaol but he's not her meant to be. And she'll need a few more books to find out. All these hints about Dorian makes me think he's is special just like her. The queen and king appearance in this last book, made me think about it.
I'm not confused, I'm team Chaol and I always will be!
In response to the Chaol getting kidnapped thought--I know! After I read that part I thought: If the rebel group can orchestrate kidnapping the Captain of the Guard, and murdering a royal (Nehemia), then why didn’t they just kill the royal family? But I guess they are working on getting Alein in place to take over and didn’t want to pull the trigger on that to soon. Nevertheless, if the Captain of the Guard is kidnapped, the castle should probably step up security!
For the original question: Dorian is my favorite! I think he is a layered and interesting character, in addition to being adorable. I just love him!

Team Dorian since ToG and still Team Dorian after reading HoF :)
Still team chaol though, from the first book hahaa
this is not me putting down Chaol, I'm just telling you this because I think its a bit funny.
when I first pictured Chaol, he was kind of short, and bald, and had like grey stubble on his face, and kind of a beer gut, and just overall, not that good looking.
I'm on team Dorian 100%.
Chaol reminds me of a koala. hahaha. all in good fun :-P

DORIAN! <3 I'm rooting for him since ToG and still after finishing HoF. To me, Dorian has very interesting character development. In HoF..(view spoiler)
Although, Dorian and Celaena have different personalities but maybe their personalities complete each other. Celaena is hot-head, she should have guy who can calm her down... and Dorian will get the strength from her and become bad-ass! It will make great character development, though.
They both also love book and have magic! I want they to rule kingdom together as King and Queen. It will be EPIC! Though, I still wonder a little bit about Dorian's magic.

Am i the only one that think, that a) u haven't red the book b) O.o why is that the only option... I am team number 3 .... through the second book i was all about Dorian, but after the 3rd book sorry but i think i have a new love interest
Dorian all the way. I had liked him with Calaena from the beginning. No matter how hard I tried to focus on Chaol in Crown of Midnight... their relationship seemed so physical.
The sacrifices made by both of them really seemed more team/sibling for my taste, whereas Dorian and Calaena scenarios was the only time Calaena was actually receiving affection from a guy. Reminder that Calaena loved Sam greatly, and though Chaol makes up for Sam's skill, Dorian's still seems to resemble Sam tenderness more.
And lastly.. they're both the heirs to continents, for god's sake! Unless SJM can find a loophole into bonding Terrasen and Adarlan together, the compability between Calaena and Dorian is just growing.

I am completely Chaol, I know that Celaena and Dorian had their moments, and there are some valid points that they've become close, but I don't see it that way. Yes, they've become close but I feel that they are close in an understanding way, a brother/sister way, or just the sharing of their magical abilities. Chaol and Celaena were close like they knew each other inside and out. They were obvious lovers and I feel like even though in Crown of Midnight Celaena kind of severed that they are still close in that manner, and they won't be able to look at each other any different. Even if Dorian and Celaena became a thing it would seem wrong, for me personally, and it would feel wrong, as if the entire story was thrown off wack.
Of course I am completely bias to Chaol, but that's just my opinion.

I liked Chaol in the first novel, but his relationship with Celaena in Crown of Midnight, I just didn't feel it. However, I'm pretty sure that Celaena isn't going to end up with Dorian either.
Maybe she'll end up with Rowan.
Maybe she'll end up with Rowan.
Until Crown of Midnight i was a Chaol fan, but damn... I think Chaol is past now. I definely Team Rowan. He is fun and infuriating... I just love him
Chaol!!!!!!! I mean, I love Dorian, and he and Celaena have their moments (they're both leaders, blah, blah, blah,) but I have been team Chaol ever since Throne of Glass. Plus in Heir of Fire, Celaena thought a lot about how she missed Chaol and Dorian didn't even cross her mind.... It always seemed to me like her feelings for Chaol were more real than her feelings for Dorian.
Also, I LOVE Rowan and Aedion.
