Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Last readathon I had a question asking, "What are some tips you maybe use that could be helpful to other participants?" and I got some really good answers. I am compiling those tips and other tips from various sources to try and help you guys to read as much as possible!

Tip #1: - Don't stress. There is no such thing as failing in readathons! As long as you are reading, you are succeeding!

Tip #2: - If you aren't feeling motivated go to our Let's Chat thread! Most likely someone will be online checking on the threads so probably will be getting some sort of response relatively quickly that will help cheer you on!

Tip #3: - Depending on your attention span try to stay away from big chunky books during readathons. You may get bored or lose interest.

Tip #4: - Give yourself a big pile of books to choose from. If you give yourself a small list you may not feel like reading them once the readathon arrives.

Tip #5: - Move around while reading! Don't sit in one place all day or your back can start hurting and it won't be fun to read anymore!

Tip #6: - Vary the types of books you read (paper, ebooks, audiobooks) and vary the genres you read.

Tip #7: - Close Goodreads. Only go to Goodreads when you are in between books or need a break. If you keep it open, you'll keep getting distracted.

Tip #8: - If you snack while reading, keep them healthy. Grapes, apples, oranges, carrots - light and easy. It will help you not get sleepy or feel blah.

Tip #9: - Drink lots of water. It's easy to lose track of time and not realize you've been sitting in one spot for hours reading. Drinking lots of water will help you stay awake and feeling better.

Tip #10: - Just have fun and don't stress! If you begin to stress reading won't be fun anymore.

If you have any other tips that were not listed already that you would like to share comment below so I can add them to the list!

Amanda (manka23) Okay here are my tips to myself.

Remember to eat! Try to eat three times a day, or at least one big meal!

Go to the bathroom!

Close the computer. Only go on in between books.

Don't tell yourself 'one more chapter' before you get up to eat or go to the bathroom. This never happens.

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments I love those ones! I especially need to listen to the "close the computer" tip! The internet is addicting. LOL

Beth (jasonverlander) | 1223 comments Utilize the reading sprints! Especially if you are busy during the day.

I know that when I'm busy all day, I have less ambition to read. But if I set aside 10-30 minute increments to only reading, I read faster and get a lot more done. It helps a ton during read-a-thons and even when you're not doing one.

Markéta Forejtová (endlessbibliophile) | 2 comments Thanks for these great tips! I'd also add ir's good to go outside the house (to prevent destraction) because that's what I do when I can't concentrate... And also: Do reading sprints or some challenges because that definitely cheers you up and keeps you motivated ;)

Maria | 786 comments If it helps you relax listen to some music. I prefer classic (Beethoven, mozart etc..) when i'm reading because it has no lyrics to distract me and sometimes the music matches the scene that i'm reading and it makes it more fun :D

I love this tip. I've been listening to Harry Potter on Pandora. So it doesn't have any lyrics either.
