Celeste Batchelor (celestebatchelor) | 27 comments I believe Goodreads says we are on week 9 in their reading challenge.

I just finished Gift from the Sea, which I absolutely LOVED! Her insights are timely for me and I found her musings poignant and beautifully written.

I also perused (read most of it) The Backyard Homestead: Produce All the Food You Need on Just a Quarter Acre! which gives a nice overview of possibilities, but not enough depth to all the subjects. I don't see how you can fit all that on a quarter acre. We lived on 1.75 acres and it was not enough for all the animals they suggest, but the book assumes you will just feed them purchased grains and not graze them. Even then...animals need more than a stall.

We are beginning Carry On, Mr. Bowditch as our read aloud book. So far it is really good!

Rachelle | 10 comments I read The Mortal Instruments books 1-5 in the last 8 days. Definitely not for everybody. When I thought of talking about it with a certain friend who is very careful and particular about what she and her family read, I realized it would not be one she'd want to read, and the description that came to mind was "Philosophies of men mingled with scripture." My husband didn't really think that was good either.

I did notice I only read like that when I seem to be avoiding a non-fiction book. In this case, Dumbing Us Down and Gift From the Sea. So basically, I read ~2500 pages to put off reading ~250. Weird.

Sara (homeschoolsara) I wrapped up Little Men and fell in love with it all over again. This week I am reading Little Britches, Three To Get Married and The Paideia Program and am re-reading Jo's Boys.
