Came home from the library with Cat's Eye-Atwood, Lady Chatterley's Lover-DH Lawrence, Satanic Verses-Rushdie, & Life of Pi-Mann. So those are the ones I'm going to be starting. Any feedback on any of these?

Any feedback on a..."Life of Pi will be the easiest read, followed by Cat's Eye. I would recommend not doing Lady Chatterley and Satanic Verses in a row - break them up with one of the other two, probably Life of Pi!
I ended up starting with Satanic Verses because I like a challenge :) So far, I'm actually finding it entertaining, if not a trifle weird, LOL. So I guess Cat's Eye or Pi will be next, then Lady Chatterley & then the other one I don't do next, but I've looked forward to Chatterley since I was a teenager & was told how very erotic it was for the time, & wasn't ALLOWED to read it! LOL!!!! That's why Lolita's on my to read list too. Was disappointed that the slightly closer branch didn't have most of the ones I'd written down, these were back ups.
Lisa, did you get my PM about your being able to check the catalog at your branch before leaving home? At my library, I can put a hold on a book. Our system isn't one that I could ask for a book to be transferred, but I would think that option would available to you.

If Lolita leaves you hungry for more, try Ada. It's more freewheeling/all over the place than Lolita and the language is just as fun!
Because I haven't given it a proper review on Goodreads, I'm re-reading Gone With the Wind so it'll be more fresh in my mind.

Yes, I agree!!
Started reading Junky by William S Burroughs this morning during another long train journey. Read about thirty pages so far but i think I might have to revisit them as my reading pleasure was being interupted by a small child in the seat behind me. So far my knowledge of the book goes like this...Benzedrine, cotton mouth "alan will you please sit down", looking for a croaker, selling tea "alan really!!!", an analysis of tea vs junk "ALAN - SIT. DOWN".
Yes alan, please sit down.

I'm really enjoying it...better than her other one on the list...can't think of the title right now though.
Something with Velvet in it....

It's enjoyable also!

I think it's called "Tipping the Velvet" but I didn't get into it the first time, but I will conquer it.
I
I am officially finished my off-List book, (shhhhhhhhhhhhh! She did not!!!) and about to start "Fingersmith". This will be the 21st book I'm reading this summer, but I think I begin the semester again in 4 weeks - boo!
Lisa wrote: "I ended up starting with Satanic Verses because I like a challenge :) So far, I'm actually finding it entertaining, if not a trifle weird, LOL. But for its time it was quite daring, particularly because of the cross-class relationship. Can't tell you more about that without spoiling the book for you, but suffice it to say it's a fabulous read. I hope you have fun reading it.

I don't think I listed that along with "Fingersmith" I've also started:"The Brothers Karamazov".
I was sad to see that this one was dropped from the latest list as it is often claimed to be Dostoevsky's greatest novel.

Craig wrote: "Confessions of a Justified Sinner -James Hogg"Oooh, I was thinking of reading that soon. Let us know how it goes.
I started For Whom the Bell Tolls. I love Hemingway's style.
Diane wrote: I have started that book probably four times. I started it again recently and I am determined to finish it before I go off to school in a few weeks. "It's actually one of my favorite books. It took me two tries, I think, when I was in the 6th grade, before I finally finished it. Well-worth reading, in my opinion.
I just started Everything is Illuminated. So far I'm really enjoying it. The conversations between Alex and Jonathan are making me laugh out loud.
Bea wrote: "I just started Everything is Illuminated. So far I'm really enjoying it. The conversations between Alex and Jonathan are making me laugh out loud."One of my favorites, by one of my favorite authors.
I've just started by David Peace.Nineteen Seventy-Seven. I wish this book wasn't in the middle of a series. It might have helped to have more of a history of the characters. That said, its an interesting book and I probably will read the other book of the series.
I'm about half way through Fowles' The French Lieutenant's Woman and am really enjoying it. I wasn't sure if I was going to be okay with the narrative voice, but I actually think it is great.
Jessica wrote: "I am reading Children's Book and Jane Eyre so far liking them"I'm thinking about starting "The Children's Book" today. How's it going so far?
Hard Times - Charles DickensOne of the few Dickens novels I know little about.
"His darkest novel" I'm told.
I am reading The Count of Monte Cristo. That is an admission that I've never read it before. So far it is not particularly interesting, but I have read that it is a real page turner.
Since I'm new to GR (though some of you may know me from BC or LT), I'll have to put what I'm currently reading from the 1001 list - even though I started one of them a few weeks back.Steppenwolf which I'm liking very much (almost half way through)
The Shipping News which is the one I started then put on hold. I couldn't get into it at first, but I've finally got to a point where it's beginning to catch my interest (i.e. past the half way mark, lol)
In Cold Blood which I'm about a third of the way through. Quite good so far.

I am enjoying it so far a lot of reviews said she has written better stuff so I like this enough to read those.
Not exactly a list book, but in preparation for reading Nineteen Seventy-Seven, I just started reading Nineteen Seventy Four. So far I am very relieved to find I like it much better than Tokyo Year Zero. I pretty much hated that book.
