I loved both Their Eyes were Watching God and Drop City. Gobbled them up.
I'm listening to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Since I know the truth already, it isn't really that exciting, but it is okey I think.
Started Brideshead Revisited on audiobook, read by Jeremy Irons. I had to get used to that deep, steady voice - it's kind of hypnotic and bad for long drives. But I'm liking it so far.
To Kill a Mockingbird and The Name of the Rose. I haven't read TKAM, but Name of the Rose is a re-read.
Just started Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. Interesting so far, once I am finished maybe I'll watch Blade Runner, no idea who is even in that movie!
One of my favorite books and movies--that does not happen very often.Karina wrote: "Just started Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. Interesting so far, once I am finished maybe I'll watch Blade Runner, no idea who is even in that movie!"
In addition to Clarissa, I started Reveries by Rousseau. Something to break up the length of Clarissa.
I read the things they carried for a class I took several years ago. What a wonderful book. Though my reactions sometimes shocked me.
Finally got around to starting The Idiot for this month's group read. Apparently a wildly popular adaptation of the book was filmed fairly recently in Russia. I should be getting it from Netflix (hopefully with English subtitles!) about the same time I finish the book. I'm a sucker for really well done 'movie versions' of books I enjoy, and the first book/part of The Idiot has been great so far.
Wuthering Heights- by Emily Bronte- looking forward to this one. It's about time it comes down from my bookshelf and is read.
I've started Broken April by Ismail Kadare. If I didn't know this was based on cultural fact, I'd think it was ludicrous. Woa. Megan wrote: "Two of my favorite books I've read in the last several years are non-fiction memoirs of counterculture communes..."
Thanks! I'll check those out.

I agree...both were very captivating reads.
Just started Human Stain, I'm excited about this one
Megan wrote: "Just picked up my copy of What Maisie Knew from the library (for the group read). It looks REALLY interesting, much more so than I imagined. I can't wait to start it! Trying to rea..."It IS very interesting. One of my favorite James novels.

What is the name of the film? Would love to see it if it has English subtitles. I read the novel so long ago....but really was impressed by it.

I just finished Kadare's "Spring Flowers, Spring Frost" and was not than enthralled. I would love to know what you think about this one. Can you compare it to others of his titles? Have you read Spring Flowers, for instance?
LDB wrote: "Just started Life of Pi. I have heard some mixed messages on this book so not sure what to expect."I loved this and gave it to my brother who isn't much of a reader and he loved it too. I have the gorgeous illustrated copy too - beautiful but big and awkward to read.
I read Broken April last summer and hated it. I was glad it was so short or I wouldn't have finished it.
LDB wrote: "Just started Life of Pi. I have heard some mixed messages on this book so not sure what to expect."I loved Life of Pi! I hope you like it.
Working my way through Jane Eyre. So far I'm in love with it and can't believe I've never read it before.
Just started Faceless Killers by Henning Mankell .... I loved the Wallander TV series .... ands the book is living up to expectations .... surprised I haven't read this before as it is my usual reading genre ...
I've just started The King's Speech : How One Man Saved The Monarchy by Lionel Logue and Peter Conradi. I'm 35 pages in and hooked already.

Deanne, Arabella is way irritating. I had taht trouble with it also. I wound up giving the book 2 stars. I loved Don Quixote, but the Lennox left me wanting more.
ElFinished it this morning and then donated it to my local library, what with budget cuts I thought it might be a good idea, not going to read it again.
Is The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe a list book?In that case, I just began The Mysteries of Udolpho.
