Which LIST book did you just start?
Lyn M wrote: "great comment, Li. I have been wanting to read that one. Judith - Did you like it? I have that book, and keep putting it on my monthly to read list, but other things keep coming up."
Do you mean "Captian Corelli..." or "Grapes of Wrath"?
I realized after re-reading your comment that I was not sure. I loved Corelli. Grapes, not so much.
Denise wrote: "Good for you Judith, Grapes has been on my TBR forever. I won't be getting to it anytime soon though.I just started "Go Down, Moses" by William Faulkner."
I've loved everything I've ever read by Faulkner, and I've read the majority of his novels. I hope you like him too.
Yrinsyde wrote: "I've just started reading Never Let Me Go and I'm finding it incredibly creepy. I wonder if me having had a kidney transplant is making this book creepier than it would be for others without transp..."Perhaps, but the whole book has an eery feeling to it, as such a story needs to be fully engaging. I loved it!
About to start this month's book (The Midwich Cuckoos) - I'd never even heard of it and I'm really looking forward to it.
Dr Zhivago, only 80 pages and I love the way it's written, I've never seen the film so I don't have that rolling around in my head. Saying that I see Yura as Omar Sharif.
Charity wrote: "Sons and Lovers - D.H. Lawrence"Charity - I really enjoyed Sons and Lovers; and I look forward to hearing what you think about it. This novel got me interested in DH Lawrence, so I read immediately afterward and was disappointed. Women in Love has been sitting on my bookshelf now for a few years, I have been wanting to read it but have somehow managed not to.
Ashley wrote: "I'm about 50 pages into Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. Not sure if this is on both 1001 lists, but I'm loving it so far! It's probably the most vulgar/explicit book I've read ..."Breakfast of Champions was the first Vonnegut novel I read and it made me fall in love with him! I went on to devour many more Vonnegut novels after that...
I just started The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann. It is 764 pages dense and prints are too small. Looks interesting so far (I am in page 74).
Started Dispatches by Michael Herr (audio version) and Like Life by Lorrie Moore this weekend. Two very different reads.
I'm currently in the middle of; "The Story of Lucy Gault", "The Midwich Cuckoos" and "Life of Pi".Am I the only one who can't read one book at a time??
No, I have to read at least 2 books at the same time. I swear it's genetic. My dad does the same thing!
Just joined the group & hope to participate as much as possible. I'm reading The Ghost after seeing the movie The Ghost Writer. I don't usually read the book AFTER seeing the movie, but I feel I missed something in the movie & want to fill in the gaps.
Stacie wrote: "I just started The Elegance of the Hedgehog."Finished this and am starting Suite Francaise.
I am starting Crime and Punishment today. We are reading certain sections only in my Great Russian Writers class, but I am just going to read the whole thing. Very excited!
Just started with Spring Snow by Yukio Mishima. I find it a very light read. It helps that I read 3 Murakami's novels (Wind-Up Bird Chronicles, Sputnik Sweetheart and Kafka on the Shore) so the Japanese words, phrases and setting are already familiar to me.
Lauli wrote: "The Rainbow by D.H. Lawrence, in anticipation of our April group read."I started on this a couple of years ago, but I just couldn't finish it. However, I still think about it from time to time, and I have considered to give it a try again some day. I would like to know what you think about it!
I recently started East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I wonder if has something to do "east of eden" mentioned in the bible---mmmm?
I'm re-reading one of my favourites Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne. It's the second time I'm reading it I love the way Verne writes.
I just finished Crime and Punishment and started on The Pillars of the Earth (and a couple of other ones; I generally end up falling asleep with at least two or three books in bed with me :/ My daughters do the same thing.)What is actually the book for April; I'm confused.
What is actually the book for April; I'm confused. The Rainbow by D.H. Lawrence. We start the discussion tomorrow.
magic mountain by thomas mann...i have a feeling i'll be reading it for quite some time...
I've started The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, but until tax season is over I don't really expect to make much progress
Picked up The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time last night. So far, it's pretty interesting and easy to get through.

You are not alone! I prefer to read 3 books at a time, it's is usually 2-3...
Josefine wrote: "The picture of dorian gray."Josefine - the 'Victorians!' group is starting a group read of Dorian Gray May 1st if you want to join in :)

Carys wrote: "Just started The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Enjoying it so far."I'm starting this in the next couple of days, and dreading it as I can't imagine it will be my thing, however I'm all for pushing yself outside of my comfort spot, (I can always give up after 50 pages if I hate it).
