Which LIST book did you just start?
I just started Salman Rushdies "Satanic Verses". That's not on this list... but it's on the 2008-version!

Well, a bit confusing, haven't really gotten so far yet. Haven't read anything else by him, so this'll be my first =)
Is The Satanic Verses not on the list?Just checked -it is on the original list as well.
I read it some years ago and found it rather hard to understand what all the controverse was about. But after some googling, it all started to make sense. I want to read it again one of these days - as well as read some other stuff by Rushdie.
Megha, Midnight's Children is on my list of books I have to either get from the library or buy at some point. It sounds like an amazing book. I have Shalimar the Clown on my shelf, however, so this will probably be the next Rushdie I read...

Ah, it's not on the booklist in this group at least, which confused me a little :p oh- just checked again and now it's there... My bad. Still enjoying it =)
Jane Eyre I read Wuthering Heights by her sister a few moths ago and thought it was pretty good - hoping I can say the same about this one. I seem to hear alot of people say how amazing it is
I started reading Marina Lewycka's A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian two days ago and it's rather interesting =)
I am starting Middlesex tonight- Have heard so many different opinions on this books so I figured I should read it for myself to determine my own opinion of it.
Shelley wrote: "I am starting Middlesex tonight- Have heard so many different opinions on this books so I figured I should read it for myself to determine my own opinion of it."Oh do share when your through
I started reading George Orwell's Animal Farm today. It's an interesting read so far, especially since I've done so much Soviet history in my university courses =)
Kristi wrote: "The Return of the Soldier"I read this a week or so ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Let me know what you think.
I started reading Sense and Sensibility last Tuesday. I've read a lot of the classics on the list already - Jane Austen quite a few times, but I am re-reading them all, especially the ones I haven't read in awhile. Reading S&S again now that I am much older and have more life experience is resonating more with me now than when I first read her when I was a young teen. It is delightful!
Dan, I really liked The Return of the Soldier. I thought the writing was beautiful, and the story was very moving. I definitely will read more by Rebecca West.I started Passing last night. I'm hooked on it...
I just started "The Book of Illusions." I didn't even remember adding it to my Booksfree, but it arrived a week ago. It's interesting so far.
I've also started The Time Machine along with the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. Both are really good so far.
I have just started "The Book about Blanche and Marie"by Per Olov Enquist. So far it seems to be a very interesting book.
Kristi wrote: "Over the weekend I started Cancer Ward, and [b:The Time Traveler's Wife|14050|The Ti..."Kristi, The Time Traveler's Wife is one of my favorite books. If you like it, you should pick up The Stolen Child sometime. Their similarity is only in the way they pull you into the story.
Just started 'The Golden Asse', holy old English Batman! Never, ever would have picked this one up, luckily I am reading in on Gutenberg.
Malou wrote: "I've just finished "Kafka on the Shore," and started "Long Way Down." "What did you think of 'Kafka on the Shore', Malou?
Starting Hideous Kinky by Esther Freund today. Still slogging my way through Don Quixote and Gravity's Rainbow but have to have a diversion from them every so often.
I'm currently readingBlood Diamonds
For school but its an excellent book!
A Treasury of Royal Scandals The Shocking True Stories History's Wickedest, Weirdest, Most Wanton Kings, Queens, Tsars, Popes, and Emperors
Purely for the fun of it!!
Queen Bees and Wannabes Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends, and Other Realities of Adolescence
Because I have the pleasure of raising a pre-teen daughter!!!
Pride and Prejudice. I'm also reading Anna Karenina but it's taking me forever!! I'm only about 270 pages in (my version has 925 total) and I feel like I've been reading it for ages; I do enjoy it though
I have I'm Not Stiller, The Drowned and the Saved and If This is a Man all waiting for me at the hold desk at the library. I am not sure which one I will start first.

Stephanie, I just bought this book too...should be an interesting break from the list.
I just started The Call of the Wild. I'm not overly enthused with it so far.
Just started American Psycho. It's pretty good so far, and I'm getting used to the descriptive language.
Gaston wrote: "A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole"I loved 'A Confederacy of Dunces'. It is so hilarious. I hope you are having fun reading it.
Shelley wrote: "I am just going to start 1984- I just finished Animal Farm and I am hooked on George Orwell."I know what you mean...I love Orwell. I've read alot of his fiction. I remember also really liking 'Down and Out in Paris and London' and 'Keep the Aspidistra Flying'. The latter doesn't have as deep of subject as his others like 'Animal Farm' and '1984'--but I really enjoyed it. And since you liked '1984' I recommend you read 'The Handmaid's Tale' by Margaret Atwood--it's very similar. A very powerful book...
I just started '2001: a space odyssey' today. The introduction in my copy mentioned that this book is written simultaneously with the script of the Stanley Kubrick film. But I can't read and watch both the book and the film at the same time, so I'll start with the book!
Molly wrote:I know what you mean...I love Orwell. I've read alot of his fiction. I remember also..."
Molly- Thank you so much for your recommendation- I also enjoy Margaret Atwood but I have not yet read "The Handmaid's Tale" I will check this out!
Hi Shelley,You're very welcome. I've read only two books by her so far--'The Handmaid's Tale' and 'Robber Bride'. And I'm getting ready to start 'Cat's Eye'.
'The Handmaid's Tale' is one of those books that will haunt you, you'll think about it long after you've already finished it--at least I have. It really makes you think. The storyline is pretty terrifying actually. But it's well-worth it! I hope you enjoy it. :)

Melissa, I think my mom must have read me the Waterbabies. I should read that again. It's a fond memory from childhood. I think there was an animated movie too...
Watership Down too!
Oh, and I loved Pippi Longstocking!
