Keep with it, it does get better! I was disappointed with the beginning when I got to the end. It could have been a 5 star rating for me if it weren't for the excessive sex.

I just finished this one. I found it a bit hard to get into also. I think it helped me when I got the hang of being able to sound the dialogue out in my mind. Kind of the way when you read a script it might seem flat, and you have to add the voices. Even then, though, it remains a bit slow. I think for me due to the fact that it centers on the leisure hours of these people. And watching other people 'party' isn't really that interesting, when you're not 'partying' yourself. I felt overall it was worthwhile for me in the end, Hemingingway definitely has a point to make, but I can understand the feeling.

There are no plays on the 1001 list. If you are unsure what's on the list of books that this group reads, check out the group's bookshelf or look here.

Mikela | 378 comments I'm about 70% into One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. So far it's a good read, but I can't get the movie out of my head. Louise Fletcher was fantastic as Nurse Ratched.

My experience with Cuckoo's Nest was, saw the movie, did assistant director plus sound/lights design for a community theatre company on the stage version, then finally read the book. The stage version is much truer to the book than the movie is, and it put a little space in my mind between the movie actors and the written characters. Much less impressed with the movie version of the 3, but agree - Louise Fletcher was fabulous.
