Which LIST book did you just start?

Apparently I need to get more sleep... I thought I was commenting on the "just finished" thread, lol.
I started The War of the End of the World about a week ago and I'm around 150 pages in and struggling. Parts of it have been interesting but then I feel like I go ten pages without really caring much. Does it get better?
It took me a while of searching through all my TBR books in order to decide which was my next pick. I "accidentally" purchased rather than sampled "Cloud Atlas" by David Mitchell on my e-reader, so figured this was a sign to read that. The initial story line of Adam Ewing didn't grab my attention, but by the time I read about Robert Frobisher I was hooked.
Also just started Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell, just a few pages in but I'm actually really liking it already, love the style of writing.

Sorry ladies completely screwed that one up! A good read though! :)

My experience of the book was similar to what you described- interesting mixed with "why is this important?"

Thank you for letting us know though! : ) I've just been slightly obsessing about it. I started reading it once before, but never finished it. I thought if it was a 1001 book I would try again, because we happen to have a copy of it. My husband and our girls absolutely love Neil Gaiman and they were excited to think it was one of the list books. I will read this book someday and will break it to my family gently that alas, it isn't on the list, sigh... : )
Started Treasure Island about a month ago then forgot about it, forgot that it was a list book but I just finished a book at work so I am reading it from my phone. Hopefully my eyes do not become worse than they already are!
Donna wrote: "Just started A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry"This is one of my all-time favourites.
Family Matters also by Mistry is good too.
1Q84. My husband got it for me as a Sweetest Day present(because it's on the new 2012 list). So far, liking it.
Donna wrote: "Just started A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry"I wish I could read this again for the first time, that's how much I loved it.

Just what I was thinking when Donna posted.
I just started The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley this weekend. Seems like a pleasant read so far.
I just started Nemesis by Philip Roth and House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski.
Nemesis is my first Roth and so far I really like his style.
I don't think I've ever read a novel like House of Leaves before. I'm really curious how it is going to develop.

Absolutely loving it so far! :)
Donna wrote: "Just started A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian :)"How cool is that title. Curious to know what you think when your done.

Started Trawl by Johnson and There But For The by Smith, and just started two weeks of annual leave as well.
Deanne wrote: "Started Trawl by Johnson and There But For The by Smith, and just started two weeks of annual leave as well."So does that mean you think you'll finish up then?
Aaron's Rod and really enjoying it. Never read any D. H. Lawrence before so happy to find another author I love.
ElizabethFinished Trawl and House Mother Normal by Johnson, also finished There But For The by Smith, all short reads. Started A Gate At The Stairs by Moore, and I've managed to get my hands on the rest of my 1001, 2012 list.
As for annual leave I get 315 hours this year, which works out as just over 8 weeks.
Colleen, I live about twenty minutes from Eastwood where D.H.Lawrence was born, in the graveyard there's a man called Aaron who was the person the character was named after.
started Farewell, My Lovely by Raymond Chandler this afternoon. Haven't finished The World of the End of the World yet but I felt the need to start something else. I think Farewell will be super easy for me to get through since I'm already loving it.
Reading Giles Goat-boy by Barth, such a strange book and at times I feel that far too long or clever for it's own good.
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "About a hundred pages into Fall on Your Knees. Are there many family sagas on the list?"I can't say as I've read many, but a few that come to mind:
Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China
Amongst Women
Love in the Time of Cholera
The Rainbow
I'm not sure they are all what you would consider "family sagas", but the focus is the family through time.

I'd also add:
Buddenbrooks: The Decline of a Family
The House of the Spirits
The Forsyte Saga

The Forsyte Saga was very good - read the trilogy of the trilogies.
