Welcome, Pete! I notice you mentioned liking horror from the 80's. Ever read anything by Michael McDowell?
Hi aficionados! My name is Holly. I'm a public librarian in South Carolina. I've been into horror since I read an abridged (lol) Edgar Allan Poe as a kid, I quickly progressed to Goosebumps and Fear Street, and then found out the ADULT section much muuuch scarier. My favorites now are Stephen King and Joe Hill but am looking to branch out. I'm hella excited that I found this group by adding a stranger as a friend on here! (Three cheers for the internet!) I enjoy true crime, graphic novels, dystopian, sci-fi, fantasy and thrillers as well as horror. I am currently reading 3 books at once which tends to be my norm. Working in a library, I am constantly bombarded with material and it's hard to say no when something tickles my fancy AND it's free. I primarily listen to books, as I often have a hard time focusing on one thing long enough to sit and actually hold the book. I just got into podcasts within the last year and they have been LIFE CHANGING! Would love to hear if others have found ones they love. I'm into My Favorite Murder, Sword and Scale, Criminal, Dirty John, True Murder, S-town, and Serial (if they'd every do another season). In fact, I want to start learning more about the various podcasts so I can start telling our library patrons about them. Anyhow...nice to be here and excited to mingle!
Hello and welcome, Holly! I enjoy listening to The Horror Show with Brian Keene. Also, Three Men With Beards. :)
Welcome to HA, Holly. I've never read any of the Goosebumps. How sad is that?! My Favorite Murder is one of my favorite podcasts as well as The Horror Show with Brian Keene.

Thanks for the recommendations! Will have to give them a listen!

I will have to give The Horror Show a listen, more than one of you said you like it. Thanks for sharing!
rick wrote: "WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you never read goosebumps very disappointed definitely read them there great"I read one when I was a kid , haunted house ? it had a blue cover and had ghost's in it it was fantastic . id love to read more now but just not sure if it worth the price and postage for the content , you know 200 or so pages vs 500-800 pages
Never judge the content by the number of words. If you knew the formula for Coke-Cola, it might only be a paragraph, but that information would make you a billionaire.
Hello!I've been a fan of horror since a very young age. Films, books, and video games. I watched 80's slasher films with my family at age 8 and found a love of horror books after getting a box of Goosebumps for a birthday present. By then, my interest escalated and I'd started reading Stephen King by the age of 12.
I continue to read, watch and play horror to this day and am joining this group to find other people who enjoy horror and can provide recommendations! Feel free to add me if you're interested :)
Somehow I missed R.L. Stine completely. I think he was popular in the 90's, right? I was mostly grown up by then! I skipped the gateway drug and started with Ruby Jean Jensen then went straight to Barker, Koontz, King & McCammon. The 80's were such a fantastic time to grow up.

Char wrote: "I missed Stine and the Goosebumps era myself. *sigh* I guess we're old. ."Ha, yep! But I wouldn't change growing up in the 80's for anything. My kids have a few Stine books kicking around but I don't think they've ever read them.
Welcome Elysa. Our intros are similar, at least in author names. Bark, you're right. The first Goosebumps was Welcome to Dead House, and it was published in 1992. I remember when I found out that in the Fear Street books, characters ACTUALLY DIED, unlike in Goosebumps. Blew my mind, haha.

I wouldn't change it either. :)
