Hello, from New Zealand. I have been a fan of Horror ever since I read Salem's Lot by Stephan King when I was sixteen. Subsequently devoured all I could find from him, Peter Straub, Dean Koontz, Dan Simmons, James Herbert, Ramsey Campbell, Clive Barker and others from that era. Now that all of those gentleman are getting on in years, I've been looking for new authors to take their mantel. Have been reading Adam Nevill, Ronald Malfi, Paul Tremblay, Nick Cutter etc. I have been writing ever since I read that King novel but haven't ever finished anything. I'm one of those wannabe authors who has a file cabinet filled with unfinished novels. Perhaps one of my children will find them when I'm gone, finish them off and make a million! Anyway, looking forward to following this group and picking up some new authors and new ways to keep myself up at night.
Nice to meet ya Chris!! Welcome to the group. Always happy to know more fellow horror geeks like myself. Horror makes everything better.
Hello, everyone! I'm Ben, and I'm a horror and dark fantasy author and reader.I've got a particular fondness for classic 19th and early-20th century dark stories - Le Fanu, Chambers, Machen, Hodgson, James, Bierce and so forth, but I'm always looking for more recommendations from the period.
As far as modern writers go, I've been particularly impressed by Michelle Paver and Catriona Ward. If anyone knows any other current ghost story writers in a similar vein, let me know!
Anyway, good to meet you all.
Hi everyone, I'm a huge horror movie fan but have only read a few horror books. I am also over halfway finished writing my first horror novel. I know that's odd, but I was so excited to find this group, can't wait to look around and find new book recommendations.
Thanks, Latasha - good to meet a fellow spirit already!I enjoy modern horror too, but there's something especially powerful about the best writers of that period; and I really like the chain-of-influence you get with Bierce to Chambers to Lovecraft with things like the Carcosa and Hastur stories.
(Thanks everyone else, as well!)
Hi, thanks for this group on here! I’m Nicki, I’m a librarian and in my spare time I like to read (what a shock, right?), I’m into science, and I have a great appreciation for art. I like most genres, but nothing beats a good horror or mystery novel. Can’t wait to see what everyone is currently reading.

Welcome Nicki! As a librarian, I don't think I'd be able to get ANY work done--LOL!

Hi, I'm Matt!I live in sunny Colombia and I'm an English teacher.
Despite being afraid of everything while I was growing up, I've become strangely addicted to horror as an adult.
Who'd have thunk it?!
Welcome, Matt!I used to be an easily-scared child as well - it's funny how far we shift the other way
Welcome new horror friends (-: I’ve only been on Good Reads and this group for a week and it is the best! So much fun, and I love being around other readers!
Welcome Coco, I am still a pretty new member myself, and HA will fuel your addiction, it certainly fueled mine!
Howdy, just joined and happy to be here! Big fan of horror--no great surprise there--but more so books rather than movies. Love horror movies, but I'm a huge chicken, so about the only things I can watch are ones from the mid-80s and older (which is fine since I love those anyway). I'm an author and editor and previously published and edited a best-selling science fiction short story magazine. I've since moved on to focus on my own writing however (horror as well; I'm done with SF for the foreseeable future), and I'm currently finishing my second novel.
My wife and I have three kids (ages 11, 9, and 8) and moved from
Huge, huge fan of Stephen King. I don't care for body horror or things that are more graphic in nature. For me, the best horror is stuff that unsettles you on a deeper level (psychological horror), which I think is one of the things King does so well.
