Greetings everyone! My name is Craig Stewart and I learned how to count from the rhyme "1, 2, Freddy's coming for you..." I always found Craven to be one of the most literary of horror filmmakers (obviously, Barker too)
I'm a fresh, new horror writer, ripe for he picking! (I swear my actual writing has better material than that) I wanted to introduce myself and pick your collective brain about some good horror books I've missed. I love books that make you regret ever having open them. That's how you know they've dug into something real, something truly horrifying, something you wouldn't normally be able to face. Right now I'm reading IT for the first time (embarrassing admittance, I know), and, although it doesn't need to be said, it's an absolute masterpiece.
Hey folks,
I'm Eddie from Unnerving and Unnerving Magazine. I read and review much (though many fewer than some), aside from all the other stuff going on with Unnerving, so if you have a recent book release suggestion (not your own books, let's show a modicum of professionalism), or think I should know about a diamond in the rough author (again, not you personally... and come to think of it, not your roommates, friends, mother, children, etc.) l'd like to know. I also have digital copies of current and forthcoming Unnerving releases ready to exchange for honest reviews. Feel free to friend and DM me concerning any of the above.

Hello and welcome, Eddie! While we love and welcome all authors we do frown upon self promotion other than in the allowed areas.
We also do promotional reads here as well, thanks to Ken. It's a new feature on offer here and we think it's working quite well so far.

For some reason I keep thinking we have a chat section so I will chat here. Lol. Can you guys believe it's almost October!!! I'm so excited but I want to find a way to not make it go by so fast! Halloween is my favorite day of the year and even that day comes and goes in the blink of an eye. Sad =(
There should be a chat section. There's one at Urban Fixation I live at, lol. Great way to make Book friends.

Hey Eddie, that wasn't what I meant at all.
I was just reassuring you regarding your comments that you should be safe from self promo here and not bombarded at every turn. I think we've all been in the position I thought you were referencing in your post-being hit up by online friends, friends of friends, distant relatives, etc.. buy my book! I was just trying to tell you we take good care of you here at HA.

Hi guys, I'm Kelsey and I'm a librarian from Missouri. I have always loved ghost stories (true or not), but have struggled to find books in this genre that I am genuinely interested in. I'm hoping to get ideas of some ghost books to read, especially in the month of October. If anyone has any suggestions, please reply to this! Whether it's specific books, authors, etc. I love to be scared!

Kelsey, welcome to HA! If you are interested in "old-fashioned" ghost stories, M.R. James has some great collections--where the ghosts are malevolent, as opposed to "romantic". ;)

Hi Kimberly! Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm happy to be here.
I don't think old-fashioned is what I'm looking for. I really struggle with this genre, for some reason. The best way I can explain what I like is to tell you that one of my favorite things to do is find websites with "true" (quotations because it's the internet and yeah,) ghost stories on there. I suppose those would be considered more modern. I love reading the supposed true haunting's that almost make you have to sleep with the lights on. I'm still going to check out James like you recommended, though. Like I said, I have no idea where to even start when it comes to this genre. All I know is, I want to get scared! LOL

THEY THAT DWELL IN DARK PLACES, by Daniel McGachey is another book with some great "old fashioned" stories, written by a modern writer.

Nicholas wrote: ":) I will try and find it. :) The benefits of being a librarian and access to the interlibrary loan system. Thanks, Kat!"You will probably also be able to get it for free on your ereader through the Gutenberg Project.

I've never really taken the time to check out any podcasts, but my husband is a huge fan of a couple, so I'm definitely going to check out the one you just recommended.

Hi there! I'm Sooz, currently living in Bradford, UK - but originally from Nottinghamshire. I run a book blog (which if allowed in the group I will say which one!) and predominantly read crime fiction, but I wandering more and more into the horror genre. I have IT (which I read back in 2015) to thank for that!
As the previous poster; Sophie, I love to read horror fiction - bit I can't watch horror films. I am a major wimp and even at the ripe age of 30, I get nightmares :(
Looking forward to connecting with other readers and nabbing some recommendations while I'm at it :)

Welcome to the group everyone! That's a hard question Sergi. There's so many different kinds of horror. My heart says I should say start with Anne Rice, because she's my favorite but I don't know.... I might have to say start with Poe ... I don't know. The last book I read that scared me good was last days by Adam Neville. Creepy shadows...
Sergi, it might help to think about what kind of horror you're into, e.g., creepy, bloody...Sergi wrote: "Hi! I'm Sergi I have read 0 horror books. My intention is to start reading and discover the horror in literature. Which would be the perfect beginning? Let me know!"
