Hello, I am Jo and I love a good ghost story. I hope to find some great recommendations here.
Happy Reading to all
Hi all. Lifelong horror fiction fan here (well, since age 10) who enjoys collecting vintage paperbacks (especially 60s-80s), but I need to start cutting back as it's getting a bit ridiculous, with piles of books on every available surface. Favorite authors include Leiber, Michael McDowell, Lisa Tuttle, Ligotti, Karl Wagner, Aickman, Caitlin Kiernan, Steve Rasnic Tem, Clark Ashton Smith, T.E.D. Klein, and many more that I'd rather not bore you with.I do like Lovecraft, but I have to be in just the right mood or else my eyelids get heavy and, sorry, but I'm one of those "early Stephen King only" snobs (though I did enjoy Just After Sunset).
I look forward to meeting and discussing horror fiction with you all, and thanks Charlene for the invite. :)
Welcome Kate, Jane, Sophie, Jo, Jack and Debbie! And anyone I've missed since last time of course! :DNice to see another Kiernan fan Jack. Jane, I love your pseudonym. Kate, have you read Herbert's Once...? It's another magical one, also weird. I have a love-hate relationship with it, even ripped it apart for a dissertation topic when at Uni, but I do keep coming back to it. Jo, I would recommend you try M. R. James' stories, Susan Hill's ghost stories and Michelle Paver's Dark Matter if you've not read them already. They're some of my personal favourite ghost stories.

I think that you and my fellow mod, Jon Recluse, have a lot of books and likes in common. Jon is an invaluable resource. :)

Hi I am AlI am quite a shy Internets person but love a good scary story so thought I should join
Some recent favourites of mine are Bird Box, The Reapers are the Angels and the Girl with all the Gifts,
Nice to meet you all :)
Hi Al! The good thing about this group is that there's no pressure to join in with group reads or posts unless you want to, but being in the group gives you a community to get recommendations and a wide variety of opinions. I can't count how many books on my wishlist have made it there through seeing someone on here discussing them.

Hey there. My name's David and I'm from Indiana, USA. I write horror and thrillers/suspense/mystery or whatever you wanna call it. You haven't heard of me because I'm not a big author haha, but I am published on Amazon (indie). Anyways, I'm really glad to be a part of this because I love horror and I love reviewing it, both movies and books, like I do on my blog. Can't wait to meet some of you so friend me or message me. If you want, you can email me too at davidkummer7@gmail.com. Whatever's easier for you. I don't mind.
Hi, I'm Eva! My gateway book to the horror genre was Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot, which I read as a teenager and scared me so much that I didn't even dare to go down in our extremly modern, extremly clean and nothing-scary-about-it-all cellar anymore, but at the same time left me wanting for MORE! 20 years later I still like to read horror and am always looking for recommendations! This group looks great and I'm looking forward to meeting new people and reading new books!!

Used to keep expecting the tapping on my window every night.

Funnily enough, when I re-read the book a couple of years ago, I was rather disappointed when it didn't scare me at all anymore - I even skipped parts (I know: that's almost blasphemous ;-)).
Eva wrote: "Thanks everyone for the nice welcome!"Hi Eva. Received your request & accepted it. Notice you are currently reading House Of Leaves. Never really got into it when I read it but thought it was a great idea, Probably the heaviest book I ever read.
I am a Cosmicism author in the vein of H.P. Lovecraft, House of Leaves, The Thing, and other works. I have recently completed my first anti novel, The Abyss Laughs. I am currently preparing my next novel, and will answer any questions on my author page. I find writing of the Old Ones to be terrifying, damning, and queasily satisfying. It is my goal to spread Their sacred word to humanity, and bring about a renewed age of despair, entropy, mouths, tentacles, madness, and the destruction of time and space. We must become Their obedient disciples, for such is the way to depraved enlightenment, and Their return.

Hi there, my name is Joe. I love all things horror. My favorite author is probably a tie between Barker and Lovecraft. My favorite horror film is Hellraiser. I tend to gravitate more to the gorier side of things, but the creepy supernatural stories are awesome when done right. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance!
Hi, Mexi. Barker was very instrumental in shaping my horror tastes back in the day. I'll always remember when I first saw his paperbacks like The Inhuman Condition and In The Flesh in the store when they were still new-ish, all with the huge Stephen King blurb: "I have seen the future of horror, and his name is Clive Barker." That sold me right then and there in the late 80s.Welcome!
