Faith Has somebody read this book because i can not believe that they kill Triss off in the end. Sorry for the spoiler alert but it just makes me mad but its to be expected of Tris's character.

♪♫Gloria♫♪ Yeah, she dies.

Kristen You should probably put "spoilers" in the title.

Are you asking for confirmation or just venting?

♪♫Gloria♫♪ Translation for above (not very good but whatever)

It is quite unfair but as you say Four intense light is destined to disappear quickly. In any case it seems even more unfair society for which Tris sacrificed, one that classifies people like cattle, and last unchanged worthwhile

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, she died. It was super sad. Actually what was sad was the way Tobias reacted, not so much the fact that she actually died. I think it is a good thing though for the main characters to die once in a while. It makes books stick in your mind and makes you think about them. It also makes them more unpredictable.

Mahrukh Yeah she dies at the end... Personally i thought maybe tobias would die or maybe he would've ended up being handicapped or something like that. but I wasnt expecting tris to die at all. Infact I didnt believe it until tobias saw her body.

Samantha I was hoping her brother died... her emotional speech before her death made her death even worse...

well read the book!!!!!!!

貝晨珊 I spent the majority of this book crying, but I can't really understand why everybody seems to be mad at Veronica for killing Tris. I mean, it was a huge step and she broke all our hearts, but in the end it kinda showed that sometimes you have to sacrifice your life for the people you love and for what you believe in.
I can't even hate Caleb, somehow. I mean, he is a filthy traitor and didn't want to sacrifice himself because he loved Tris, but because he felt guilty, but in the end he did love her and his family and he regretted all the things he'd done, and he just showed that people make mistakes - in his case huge ones - and usually have trouble dealing with the consequences. I can't be mad at Caleb, because I can understand how Jeanine influenced him and all the others. He's not a bad person, he just made all the wrong choices.

Dauntless Demigod All I did was cry,but the real problem is the movie! Is she gonna die in the movie too?

Shaylee I felt like Veronica was trying to make it like a big final selfless act for Tris, but really it was kind of selfish. I mean, no one cared about Caleb. Tris was the only person alive that still liked him. But lots of people love Tris and didn't want her to die. So by sacrificing herself, she selfishly saved Caleb because she didn't want to lose him, and made everyone else suffer because of it. I understand where Veronica was coming from, and I think its fine to kill off the main character sometimes, she just didn't do a good job writing it.

message 13: by Abby (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abby I actually liked that Tris died because it was a shocker and nobody expected it.
I mean if the book ended any other way I probably would have been disappointed, Veronica did the right thing.

ⓔⓜⓘⓛⓨ I HATED the fact that Tris dies. Ive been cheering her on through the first 2 books, but her dying?!? I understand the message that Roth was trying to convey, but I didn't like that at all. I also disliked the way Tobias reacted to the news. It was as if her didn't love her as much as everyone thought he did.

MissIntegrity HUGE! Never, ever, kill off the main character end of story. Bottom line. I wouldve let Caleb die, but hey not my book.

Goodluck with the ratings for this let down! And I wouldve rated 1 star for this piece of crap had it not been for the other two books being so amazing

All she went through, every little thing, to die?!
That defeats the effing purpose she shouldve just bit the bullet in the beginning to get it over with. Being a good heroic hero my butt!

I completely agree, Tris comes off as a holier than thou martyr. So much for her love of Tobias, she's willing to die for a brother who had her tortured and sentenced to death. Her sacrifice is less honorable because she throws all common sense aside. I am at least glad that Roth didn't let Tobias take the easy way out by wiping his memory...that would have shown his love was shallow as well. Can't always have a HEA but this story was a mess.

I rated it 1 star anyway; the first two books should not prop up the third. Converesly however, the third book should not weigh down the first two.

Danielle I thoroughly thought this book weighed down the awesomeness of the first one (the second one wasn't great either) but seriously guys..... When she saw her mom holding out her hand, I thought maybe, MAYBE she's dead. But when Tobias saw her body, it confirmed my niggling suspicion.
Her sacrifice, to save her brother that almost had her killed, left Tobias, her LOVER, alone. I don't think she should have done that to Tobias.
I agree with Shaylee that Caleb should have been the one to die, to prove his new loyalty to Tris.

Well Yea but I didn't think it necessarily deserved a 1 mainly because it was pretty good up until that point really the end ruined the series as a whole

I felt the writing to be of noticeably poorer quality than the first two, and an elementary schooler could see what's wrong with the genetics subplot. But to each his/her own.

I personally don't agree I stated my concern for Tris's welfare way before Allegiant came out on this the Insurgent discussion page. This was because VR said Harry Potter should die so I had a sinking feeling it would happen and sure enough VR killed her. It her decision wasn't great or necessary it was just plan stupid on Roth's part. Nice way to keep core fans.

Taylor I think Tris was always supposed to die. Her multiple sacrifices throughout all of the novels displayed her character development. In her final sacrifice she showed how strong of a person she was, how much she was able to love and forgive and fight for the chance at a better life, not only for her, but for everyone. She was able to achieve that selflessness she always felt she wasn't living up to.
This I think was Roth's final way of developing Tris as a character.

message 29: by Shari (new) - rated it 1 star

Shari You don't kill off a first person narrator, because you basically just killed off your reader...especially in YA lit.

Taylor But in the third book, there are two narrators. Four is equally as much of a narrator in this one as Tris has been in the first two. Literally as soon as I saw the switch, I knew she wasn't going to survive. And they get you used to Four as a narrator the whole book to prepare you for his solo act after Tris passes.

ⓔⓜⓘⓛⓨ Shari wrote: "You don't kill off a first person narrator, because you basically just killed off your reader...especially in YA lit."

The problem with the dual narration in Allegiant is that it makes Tris's fate woefully obvious. The fact that the narrators sounded so alike that I couldn't tell them apart and got them confused (even after (view spoiler)) doesn't help the book's quality either.

ʟ ᴀ ᴜ ʀ ᴀ Shari wrote: "You don't kill off a first person narrator, because you basically just killed off your reader...especially in YA lit."

I totally and completely agree!

Naomi Speakman I finished Allegiant just a few hours ago, and I don't really know what to think of it. I'm still in shock, and I cried a LOT! I'm just so... so heartbroken that Tris died. I mean, TRIS? Really? And poor Tobias. I felt so bad for him!!
It was just a complete shock.
Saying that, Tris was Dauntless. She is brave.

I know!! Honestly, I don't think that the MAIN CHARACTER should die!!!!!

Naomi Speakman And Uriah. I loved him!

ʟ ᴀ ᴜ ʀ ᴀ I know! He's my favorite guy in the book! First they kill him in the third book, and now they aren't bringing him into the first movie!!!

Naomi Speakman WHAT? Why isn't he going to be in the movie? What about Zeke?

ʟ ᴀ ᴜ ʀ ᴀ I don't know!! They aren't having him in the first movie, but he might be in the second. But in the first movie, he is one of the first friends Tris makes, and he also takes her ziplining! Who's going to do that now? Because it can't be Tobis because of his fear, but they will probably just make it Christina. And they are probably just trying to find the perfect cast, and haven't found the perfect Uriah yet.

It could be Marlene or Lynn.
It's nice to see the movie looks just as actiony as the book though. And the cast is a replicate of the characters as well, especially Tris. Tobias is gorgeous!

ʟ ᴀ ᴜ ʀ ᴀ Haha, I know!!!

Naomi Speakman Only the movie-Tris doesn't have a big nose!

Samantha But the reason there was conflict between Tris and Christina was partly the zip lining if I remember correctly, I wonder who, they show her zip lining in the previews.

ʟ ᴀ ᴜ ʀ ᴀ I know, but I couldn't see who else was up there.

Naomi Speakman Eric, maybe?

ʟ ᴀ ᴜ ʀ ᴀ I don't think so, because he's all evil and stuff, but maybe.

Naomi Speakman Perhaps Peter goes, or Drew or Al. I think it's ridiculous that Uriah isn't going to be in it. I bloody love him!!

ʟ ᴀ ᴜ ʀ ᴀ I know, ME TOO!!!!! He is my favorite male character in Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant.
