Not sure I'm up for any more Stephen King."

Funny you say that because I'm just reading THE GREEN MILE - STEPHAN KING :) and loving it. (hated the film, and I dont do much fiction) I started The shining once and it scared me...Lol. How did you go with it in the end?

That's funny it scared you! I first watched the Shining home ALONE when I was in hs, and it scared the crap outta me! The book's ending is a bit diff. than the movie. Glad I read it, but there just were a lot of unnecessary details. (My hubby is trying to plow through IT, and talk about details!)

Kerry (caseykerry) | 251 comments I'm currently reading Misery by Stephen King misery stephen king. saw the film as a kid and recently watched it a couple months ago - very 90's lol. book so far so good- shes crazy.

recently read RITA HAYWORTH AND THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (film adapt of king aswell) it was good, not a huge fan of the film or anything but the film stuck SO close 2 the book.

Also reading Black Dahlia Avenger A Genius for Murder by Steve Hodel lots of films have covered THE BLACK DAHLIA case, but this is meant to be a 'case solved' book. its so good so far.

Simon (siid) | 27 comments I started reading The Handmaid's Tale the other day and already love the book. Atwood's use of language and the story (so far, I'm only about 11% into the book) are tragically beautiful. The story reminds me a bit of Never Let Me Go, which is a very good thing since it is one of my all time favourite books.
The series started last month in the states on hulu. (looking forward to its release in Europe). Has anybody already watched it?

Astraea (astraeagroup) | 9 comments Kerry wrote: added the Joanna one to the group but had added a different addition to my own shelf (joannas 'as' hannah green?) would you be able to tell me the difference and or which to read pls? is it a fiction novel or nonfiction thanks andy/astrea

Hannah Green is Joanne Greenberg. She first published the book under that name. It was kind of a joke as the text was clearly autobiographical and the names, places, etc. were pretty thinly disguised, but for many reasons she didn't want to be "out" as the author. She put her real name on later editions. The text is identical. All that the names indicate are when the book was published. If it says "Hannah Green" only, you have a very early edition. If it says Joanne Greenberg writing as Hannah Green, a later edition. Today's printings just say Joanne Greenberg.
I hope you enjoy the book and maybe there could be a discussion of it in Controversial Books.
Jay

Kerry (caseykerry) | 251 comments I'm currently trying my hand at some fiction- a Nicholas Sparks book
The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks I'm not much for silly sappy fiction but im giving it a go to try and read something light for a change. seems okay.

Astraea (astraeagroup) | 9 comments Speaking of popular works, over the weekend we were told in all seriousness to read The Shipping News. Uh-uh. We avoid Annie Proulx like the plague. We are halfway through The Keillor Reader at present and like it very much.

Kerry (caseykerry) | 251 comments ASTRAEA - Hey Iris and Jay, I have heard good things about The shipping news but have never read or seen the film, hope you enjoy it.
SIMON is it sort of a period piece? the language very periodic? it sounds very interesting but i hate old fashiioned language.

It is not our usual kind of thing at all, but Molly is semi-interested after we flipped through it, so we might get it from the library or something. At least it's actually at least partly about journalism.

Leslie Read "The Glass Castle" The Glass Castle earlier this year, and finally there's a release date for the movie! However, I'm a bit bummed because the trailer doesn't look like how I envisioned it. Thought it'd be more humorous. :/

Kerry (caseykerry) | 251 comments Aw that sucks but you never know!

B. P. Rinehart (ken_mot) | 7 comments I just finished reading The Devil Finds Work by James Baldwin. It is his book of film criticism and it is amazing. He made me re-examine some of the movies he commented on and he has some good insight on the way they reflect the society that made them.
