While all other "ownable" properties on the Monopoly board come in sets of 2 or 3 the Railroads stand above them all requiring a person to try to acquire all 4 Railroads to achieve domination. In honor of their importance to the game board, and because trains are cool (My mother loved model trains so I grew up playing with them often.), here is my railroad task.
The First Transcontinental Railroad, was a 1,907-mile (3,069 km) contiguous railroad line constructed between 1863 and 1869 across the western United States to connect the Pacific coast at San Francisco Bay with the existing Eastern U.S. rail network at Council Bluffs, Iowa, on the Missouri River.
In honor of the First Transcontinental Railroad, choose ONE of the following options and read ONE book that fits that option.
1. Read a book with a page count including any combination of the numbers in the mile (1,907) and/or kilometer (3,069) distances. Duplicate numbers may only be used if they appear twice in the distances (i.e. 0 & 9) REQUIRED: State your page count when you post.
NOTE: ebooks without print versions cannot be used for tasks requiring a specific number of pages. If you read an ebook or listen to an audiobook, use the page count for the mass market paperback if one exists. If there is no mass market paperback edition, use the paperback edition and if no paperback is available use the hardcover edition.
OR
2. Read a book that takes place primarily (at least 50%) in one of the states the Union Pacific Route traveled through: Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, California
REQUIRED: State how the book fits if it's not clear in the GR description.
OR
3. All trains start with a locomotive in the front and are usually followed up by a caboose in the back, but the number of railway cars in between can vary drastically. I remember as a kid sitting and trying to count them all as they went past.
In honor of all those middle cars read a book from a series, no matter how long the series is, as long as it is NOT the first or last currently published book in that series. Books must be identified as part of a series on Goodreads and whole number books only will be accepted. (i.e., Series titles with .5 or other non-whole number descriptors will not be accepted for this task.)
OR
4. Since a locomotive is in the front, and a caboose brings up the rear, read any book by an author whose first name starts with a letter found in LOCOMOTIVE and whose last name begins with a letter found in CABOOSE.
Required: Identify the option used when you post.
