I think that she was justified in dumping Jared, but I don't nessisarily think it was right. Maybe she could have lied? (That makes me sound like a really bad person...lying to your dying mom) But at least her mom dyed happy. I really don't know. It would be a really hard desision to make if I was in that situation.

If it makes you feel better, I'm just as conflicted!
I think it would be hard to deny your dying mother anything, really. But I'm not sure that she should have gone about it the way she did. Perhaps she could have told Jared everything, and have asked for a break? Just until her mother passed away? I don't know...it's certainly an extremely difficult and delicate situation to handle.

The question to think about is:
At her dying mother’s request, Claire dumped Jared, the only boy she’d ever loved.
Do you think she was justified in doing so? Or should she have gone against her mother's dying wish?
Feel free to extend the discussion beyond the questions and simply talk about the book as well :D
