How do you think The Princess Bride ultimately be categorized: Satire? Adventure? Romance? Fantasy? Is the title ironic? Does it imply a tame love story or a traditional piece of children’s literature?

I read the Princess Bride a few years ago and enjoyed it but not as much as I liked the movie. This probably comes from having seen the movie many times before finally reading the book. It's one of the rare books that was successfully translated into a movie.
As for the genre - I think you can pick whichever one you like - it successfully satirizes traditional stereotypical fairy tale characters; it's #11 in the top 100 Fantasy and Science Fiction books; it's filled with humour so it appeals to a wide audience; the romance is wacky enough that it's truly enjoyable without being saccharine.
Although the title promises a tame love story - it's anything but. Many of the characters and situations described in the story have entered our pop culture; this proves the book's mass appeal to the modern child and adult.
I am in the middle of the book now. I think the author of the book wrote the transcript for the movie right? Which is probably why it was such a good film. I am enjoying the extra details in the book though that we don't get to see in the film. Like what happens to Inigo's father.

As for the genres I think that this novel isn't simply an adventure or a romance novel or a satire, it is more of a mix.

I find the writing a bit too "silly" for me. I get that it's satire and he's trying to be funny, but I'm not really laughing with it yet... but I'm only at the shark part, before they climb up the cliffs. Maybe I'll get more used to it? Some of his sentences though, feel very unfinished - I know he's trying to make it seem like he's talking to us, telling a story verbally, but it still bothers me, haha. I don't mean to sound like a stick in the mud - I readily laugh at plenty of books, I promise!
It does feel quick-paced though, which I appreciate. I was worried I wouldn't be able to stick through it, but I think I will! I'll have to check in again after I finish, too.

Can't wait to see what you think... kind of a bummer you joined during a month where the book isn't the best (well at least in my opinion!).
