Traveller (moontravlr) | 1850 comments Hello everyone! Before we even start with the discussion proper, I'd like to chat about a few things first.

As I was about to start opening the threads, I realized that there are 5 (or more, but 5 that I know of), translations of this out there.
One each by Natasha Randall, Clarence Brown, Mirra Ginsburg and Alexander Glinka and Gregory Zilboorg.

Please take note that your translation edition can make a difference to how you experience the novel. Basically any translation will do, but I've heard that the Randal and Brown translations are the best for readers who prefer a 'modern' translation.
(Welcome to the world of translated books!)

And that in turn, made me realize that this is our very first translated work that we're discussing here on Mièvillians! We need to pop a bottle of champers for that! I hope CM would be proud of our cosmopolitan spirit...

It will actually be interesting to compare notes if a few of us have been using different translations.
(More later).

Derek (derek_broughton) | 762 comments I have the Ginsburg.

Allen (allenblair) | 227 comments Well, mine is the Momentum edition by Pan Macmillan publishing, no translator listed, Kindle edition 2013. Actually rather disappointed it doesn't list a translator...

Derek (derek_broughton) | 762 comments Check the back of the book. My version only mentions the translator on the back pages.

Traveller (moontravlr) | 1850 comments I think I'll point to the first thread from here.

Here it is: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

There's a bit I wanted to say in this thread about my copy's introduction; actually there's a lot of interesting things in the introduction. I'm just short on time as usual, boo.
