There's a bit I wanted to say in this thread about my copy's introduction; actually there's a lot of interesting things in the introduction. I'm just short on time as usual, boo.
As I was about to start opening the threads, I realized that there are 5 (or more, but 5 that I know of), translations of this out there.
One each by Natasha Randall, Clarence Brown, Mirra Ginsburg and Alexander Glinka and Gregory Zilboorg.
Please take note that your translation edition can make a difference to how you experience the novel. Basically any translation will do, but I've heard that the Randal and Brown translations are the best for readers who prefer a 'modern' translation.

And that in turn, made me realize that this is our very first translated work that we're discussing here on Mièvillians! We need to pop a bottle of champers for that! I hope CM would be proud of our cosmopolitan spirit...
It will actually be interesting to compare notes if a few of us have been using different translations.
