Are there any particular books or authors or genres you've been avoiding recently?? Anything you're not very keen on reading, or afraid of reading or books which are strict NO-NOs to you....

Share them here!

Constance Bretes I tend to avoid erotica books. Not that I don't like sex in the book, I have sex in my book, but I like to read more of the story.

yeah, same here...erotica, unnecessary sex without story...strict no-no for me...

message 4: by Erica (new)

Erica (ericaevernight) I sometimes, only SOMETIMES, but most of the time avoid books with no potential love interest. Idk its just me I like romance, and I generally prefer the author to be female as well, Don't know why, again that's just me.

message 5: by Bethan (new)

Bethan Jones | 60 comments I agree with Constance I'm not really a erotica reader but I also seem to avoid reading thriller and crime books

Carla Doolin (carladoolin) | 5 comments I cannot read young adult/new adult books. My shortcoming, not the books'. Nine times out of ten the heroine is a twit or the hero needs a smack. Or vice versa. I'm so far past that stage in my life it's like reading about my kids. And that stuff I just don't want to know! :)

message 7: by Constance (new)

Constance Bretes Yes, young adult/new adult books are not something I like to read either. I've just no interest in them.

message 8: by Cherise (new)

Cherise (cherisejy) | 2 comments Same here. Not a fan of erotica. I don't mind reading hot love scene if there is some feelings involved between the parties, but definitely not those with menage a trois or bdsm content....

I tried a few of the new hip new adult young adult genre, but I also find I am probably too old to be connected to our young one's dramatic reactions to seemingly inconsequential stuffs (like being rejected by someone one likes to date). Oftentimes though, it does address really serious issues and I just find it really weighs me down too much and I need a breather in between...

Kat Desi (katdesiwrites) | 64 comments Well. I'm pretty big on erotica. I love me some smut but I am a romantic at heart so my deal breakers are the total taboos like incest, bestiality, etc. (YES THERE ARE BOOKS LIKE THAT! I know, I can't believe either). I like erotica within a love story whether it's M/F, M/M or M/M/F or M/F/M.

Even me....erotica is okay if within a love story...

Katrina.. Have you read Cara Covington (Lusty Texas Series) or Heather Rainier books (Divine Creek Series). They are good, have a nice story line and are a series. Mostly M/F/M and most without M/M but some have that part. Also Dixie Lynn Dwyer is a good author.. Not sure if you read those. If you do would like to know how you feel/felt about these?

message 12: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) Ruchi to answer your question... there is nothing that I truly avoid but there are some books that I might leave half way, when they do not interest me. Also I do not like books without a story line, especially in the erotica series. But I have found many that have a good story line and are erotica and they are good.

Even I tend to leave books halfway...especially if the storyline is not good, or, if the writing is boring. The only erotica I've read, which was strictly erotica, was FSoG series but as I liked the story of the 2nd and 3rd books...I read them. Also, I love to read HR books and they usually contain sex scenes...but since they have a proper storyline i read them. But erotica without any story, like you, to me also is a strict no-no:)

I have heard of these authors but I haven't read any of their work. Well... I really like a good M/F/M book but I tend to enjoy M/M/F more. I also indulge in some M/M romance :)

I concur with you there, Constance.

Andrea (alexandra14) | 1146 comments I'm avoiding Alyson Noel since I read Everlastingthe first book in the series. There were 5 books in the series and I just read 2 and 1/4 of books. I hated everything, the principal character specially. I'm not reading anything more of her.

message 17: by Aditi (new)

Aditi (aditi3991saha) | 225 comments Harlequin books!

message 18: by Slytherin Rose (new)

Slytherin Rose (kschatterbox) | 9 comments Danielle Steele books- I have read too many. Also they seemed to be a like just different character names.

message 19: by Prity (new)

Prity Malhotra | 3 comments I avoid Books that have a Cover of some Muscular Guy or some Sexy Girl or Both. Millions of authors go for such covers which make their Books look Ordinary. Don't know why they do this !!

message 20: by Jenn (new)

Jenn Sherilyn Kenyon. I used to love her books but they took on a darker side with Styxx and I won't read her books anymore

message 21: by Corie (new)

Corie J (CorieJohns) | 7 comments For some reason I just can't get through fifty shades freed. I just don't know why. I think I got bored. And right now I'm avoiding finishing it. That happened to me with Stephenie Meyers The Host as well. It took me a year and a half to finish it because I just couldn't get past the first third of the story. Also I am avoiding The Best Of Me like the plague.

I've been avoiding Sugar Daddy for years now, even though Kleypas is one of my favourite author. I haven't even tried reading it, but something about the summary just makes me not want to read it.
