Bird Box - August 23rd, 2015

Hmm I had only thought of what I mentioned in the first post. People mentioning what chapter they are on and then hiding any spoiler comments between tags. So I guess that means I would love if we all go at whatever pace suits us each the best.

With work I never know how much reading I can get per day and to be frank I don't like the idea of imposing a certain amount of pages or chapters on someone.

Hmm it's going to be difficult to keep track of this. The chapters are not numbered, at least in my edition. I finished the first one.
Scary... I wonder what the heck happened.

Hmm. (view spoiler)[Chapter two says it is 9 months before the twins,are born and yet Mallory says she missed her period. Unless my math is wrong that could mean a 10 month gestation or longer. (hide spoiler)]

Looks like the narrative will be alternating between past and present.

Found chapter three a bit repetitive.

I lost count... This one said 6 months before birth.

(view spoiler)[I am confused. How do people know folks get crazy because they saw something? Not like anyone lived to tell... How do they know for sure? Why can't it be something they smelled or felt or whatever?

And though there is obviously better things to worry about, I kinda wanna know what happened to the baby daddy. Did Mallory ever managed to talk to him? (hide spoiler)]

I finished page 92. It's hard to put this down. Even though I feel a lot has been assumed instead of explained so far I am definitely digging the horror atmosphere.

(view spoiler)[Yep, Shannon dying that soon was sad, but it forced Malorie into action. She never wanted to believe what her sister was saying. Needed to have extreme proof.

I am not sure how I feel about Malorie being able to drive to the house. Do you think those movements she saw out of the corner of her eyes were the creatures?

I am still not sold on people assuming the trigger is sight. It's not just speculation, they treat it as a fact. And I still don't know why. Not like there were any reports of ill people who were eloquent enough to say they saw something.

Which brings me to the man in the river and why I am not 100% sure he saw a creature. People who did did not seem capable of proper speech and to be honest if he was mad I think it's due to being on his own for so long. After all, at that point it's been more than 4 years since the whole thing started. Maybe he was just pissed off that the few people who were still walking around were all blindfolded.

I really wish Malorie had asked him when he saw the creature and what it looked like. (hide spoiler)]

I finished page 252 last night. A guy named Gary just came into the picture.
(view spoiler)[Not sure what is up with that guy but I am sure something bad is gonna happen because of him. He sounds extremely manipulative. And I wonder why no one has asked him about his views on the whole thing, even though Malorie keeps saying he only talks about the views of the guy who left. (hide spoiler)]

So, any idea who is going to die first? (view spoiler)[My money is on Felix. Maybe Don but probably not, since he brings plenty of conflict to the story.
I am also thinking Olympia may die during childbirth. (hide spoiler)]

I am at page 328.

Well, I finished it a lot sooner than I thought. It seems that the last 90 pages are a bonus story. I will get to that tomorrow.

Final verdict is that although there were several things that felt off to me the fact is I enjoyed the book a lot.

this short story is confusing the heck out of me. is this Fiction or an essay?? i can't even keep track of all the names and to be absolutely frank I am utterly bored.

(view spoiler)[I agree with Don hiding Gary. Granted, they were in the cellar alone the entire time, but sooner or later someone had to go down there and grab food and sense someone else there.

I am not sure how he got up there. I imagine it was when Don pulled the blankets down so everyone instantly closed their eyes, so they would not see Gary.

Yes, the scene where Olympia died was very disturbing, as well as anything that came out of Gary's mouth...

Maybe they were right about insane people being immune?

I agree with your guesses and reason, they were the less developed characters.

I had the same problem with Malorie opening her eyes then as I did with her driving all the way to the house. Too much of a coincidence that everyone else died and she always remained unharmed.

Most of all, I wish I had known more about the nature of the creatures. The one who approacher her did not seem to mean her any harm. Eventually left the boat alone altogether. As far as I knew, none of them ever touched a human being. So maybe the theory that I cannot recall anymore was correct.

I am fairly certain that yes, they would most likely be forced to blind themselves then. It was the way back then... (hide spoiler)]

In the end, there was a lot that could and did go wrong with working on the basis of such a premise. But it was still a thrilling read.

(view spoiler)[definitely! Besides, it seems clear she was more focused on training their survival skills, not grammar or how someone mad might sound, as was mentioned at some point.

Yeah i noticed that line as well, that is no explanation. If she needed to call them, then.they needed namew, period.

Focusing on sight brought a wonderful dimension to the story imo because there is si much that could be happening! (hide spoiler)]

Hmm that's odd. I got it from book depository. You can still find it there but it's a lot more expensive than when I first bought it. Books at BD generally are...
